Personal Description:

I am a UK qualified teacher specialising in English, and hold an Master's Degree in English Literature, as well as a BA in English Literature and Japanese. Currently, I work full-time as an English teacher at an oversubscribed grammar school in the London area.

I am passionate about languages and reading, however, at secondary school I felt depondant and unengaged with lessons, as though they were something to be endured rather than enjoyed. Since then I have discovered the joy that can come with learning, and I became a teacher in order to help other learn this as well.

I am energetic and enthusiastic, and believe in adapting teaching approaches in order to find a solution that works best for each learner.

Teaching Experience:

I have years of teaching experience garnered in a wide range of environments, from Secondary schools throughout the UK, to state and private teaching institutes in Japan.

These experiences have been in teaching GCSEs and A-Levels, as well as tutoring for adult education and university students. I specialise in English (literature and language) and Japanese, and have tutored students from a variety of cultural backgrounds.

In recent years, my notable teaching experiences have been at Bradford Grammar School (an Independent, grammar school) and the City of London School.

Tutoring Approach:

As a tutor, I feel it is extremely important to relate to each individual, personalising materials and ensuring that learning is relevant, by combining the core principles of the subject with modern, understandable examples. In this way it is possible to make sure that pupils understand how a topic applies to them, rather than merely forcing themselves to memorise information by rote, which is the fastest way to undermine the learning experience.

I use a range of approaches including visual, audio and kinaesthetic aids and activities to ensure that students are engaged and that learning is an active, rather than passive, experience.
