Sara - Farnham tutor
Information About Sara:
Personal Description:
My name is Sara and I currently have daytime spaces for sixth form students studying Maths and Biology. I am based just outside Farnham.
I have worked full time as a tutor since 2009 and have a huge wealth of experience. I draw on my knowledge and experience to help my students fulfil their potentials. I offer a very positive approach that helps builds up my students confidence and their enthusiasm for the subject. I have helped students with a wide range of ability. I help build back up the confidence of those who lack self belief and showing them they are able to tackle the subject. I also have the knowledge and enthusiasm that will help push those students who are very able and are aiming at getting those top grades.
I believe I have a logical mind that helps me explains things in a clear, logical and structured manner. I enjoy helping people understand things and finding ways to explain things. I am very personable and I think children of all ages find me approachable. I find tutoring very rewarding and love watching pupils grow in confidence and ability.
I graduated from Durham in 2001 with a 2:1 in Natural Sciences. During my course I studied Economics, Maths, Physics and Biochemistry. I have an MSc in Real Estate Investment. After University I worked as a management consultant and then as a product manager. I gained straight As at A Level in Maths, Physics, Biology and Chemistry in 1998.
Teaching Experience:
I feel privileged to have had the pleasure of working with over 150 pupils and now have over 3500 hours of tutoring experience. I have done a large amount of tutoring working with students preparing for GCSE and iGCSE examinations in maths and all three sciences. I know the syllabuses thoroughly. I use this and my knowledge and understanding of what is expected, to support my students with their studies. At A level I have helped students preparing for Biology and Maths exams.
My 13+ common entrance pupils have all got their required grades for their choice of school. Often I have not only boosted their understanding and confidence, but also helped them develop a greater love of the subjects which I hope encourages them to study these further. I am very familiar with the requirements for 11+ for various schools and some of my students have won scholarships / awards.
I have undergone specialist training in Dyscalculia and am able to use the British Dyslexia Society's advanced, multi-sensory maths development programme for the remediation of dyscalculia to offer extra support to Dyscalculic approach. I am accredited to Level 2 by the British Dyslexic Society and have undergone their Practical Solutions for Dyslexia, Dealing with Dyscalculia and Dyscalculia Plus Course.
Tutoring Approach:
I offer a very positive and encouraging approach. My huge wealth experience from many years of tutoring means I have a thorough knowledge of the different syllabuses. I tailor my lessons to the needs of the individual pupil, rather than following any prescriptive format and I encourage my students to ask lots of questions and to be inquisitive about the subject. I am passionate about my subjects and aim to make the lessons enjoyable as well as informative. As well as increasing their understanding the subject, I see students gain in both confidence and enjoyment of the subjects.
