Christine - Birmingham tutor

Information About Christine:

Personal Description:

I have been studying psychology since 1972 when I did my own A levels. I found the subject fascinating and went onto study psychology at university. My first job was working as a residential social worker with delinquent boys which was a very challenging job indeed. I then went on to work as a field social worker and learnt much about the problems people can have. I then decided to go into teaching and did a PGCE teaching course at Birmingham. My first teaching job was at the college where I studied for my own A levels. I have been teaching ever since. I have always been interested in understanding people and I did a Masters Course in Pastoral theology to further my understanding. I am mainly a visual learner and so enjoy presenting work pictorially using a lot of colour. My friends and family say I am a very friendly person, able to listen as well as to communicate clearly. I enjoy teaching large groups but also enjoy teaching on a one-to-one.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching Psychology since 1983. I have experience of teaching both GCSE Psychology and AS and A2 level Psychology. Most of my experience has been with 16 - 19 age range but I have also taught adults in part-time A level classes both in the day-time and in the evening. I have taught mainly the AQA specification A but have recently changed specification to the Edexcel AS and A2 Psychology. I have taught in a very large psychology department at Cadbury 6th Form College in Birmingham. I have also had experience of working as a private tutor with students on a one-to-one basis, mainly as a response to advertising. Since the pandemic I have had experience of teaching GCSE and A level Psychology online.

Tutoring Approach:

My experience and knowledge of psychology enables me to make the subject very accessible. I am able to present complex theories and studies in a clear and understandable way. I enjoy an interactive approach to learning, by exploring students questions and things that they find difficult. I have many resources, including booklets that are both full of content and interactive exercises. I also present a lot of work via colourful power-points. I try to make my approach to tutoring very flexible, finding out the areas where students need most help, whether it be in learning, understanding the material, explaining the material in written form, essay skills, revision or exam skills.
With the current pandemic situation I am offering private tuition online so that you can study from the safety and comfort of your own home.
