Information About Melanie:
Personal Description:
My primary career is of a theatre director, directing new writing in London. I am also a drama teacher/facilitator at present for Helen O'Grady, Artis and Big Foot Drama Academies teaching primary school children voice, movement and improvisation skills. I'm about to start work for Theatre Tots teaching under 5's and I also run workshops for 15-18 young adults in drama. I am a very outgoing, positive person and give my full commitment to any job I undertake. My communication skills and personality thrive when in one to one situations as I am a great active listener offering advice whenever possible. My ability to work with people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds is strong and I am most happy when with other people.
Teaching Experience:
As well as teaching primary children drama skills for Helen O'Grady, Artis, Big Foot and Theatre Tots I have experience running workshops for professional actors and young people aged 15-18 in drama. Most of my teaching jobs aim to boost confidence and communication skills in young people.
My English teaching experience comes from the Oxford Academy where I taught KS1 and 2 English, English as a foreign language in South Korea for 6 weeks and also private English and drama tutoring in Berkeley, California with High School children. I currently tutor KS2 English, Maths, Science and History.
Tutoring Approach:
Making sure each pupil is given my full attention and support is imperative to me. If I am enthusiastic and keen to teach the subject matter then this usually rubs off on the pupil, who then wants to learn more. I have a laid back but positive teaching style that allows pupils to voice their own opinions, learn through mistakes and use their creative flair in both drama and English. The curriculum I teach is important to stick to but I make sure the material and subject is fully understood instead of learnt parrot fashion. My aim is to increase pupils' confidence, knowledge and experience of a given subject and most importantly to instill enthusiasm.
