Information About Andrew:

Personal Description:

I have been providing one-to-one tuition predominately in GCSE and A level Mathematics and Economics for over 15 years. I have worked in a private college for 5 years and have spent 1 year as a secondary mathematics teacher in a mainstream secondary school. During university, I held part time jobs as a tutor at various after school tuition centres and an Activity Manager of an international summer camp. I have a wealth of experience helping all sorts of students to enhance their skills, strengthen their subject knowledge and ultimately pass exams with confidence. I also provide lessons for 11+ exam preparations.
I thoroughly enjoy working with young people, helping them to overcome their academic obstacles in order to reach their potential. I believe I am a friendly, approachable, and calm tutor, tailoring lessons and accommodating my students as much as possible.

Teaching Experience:

Assistant Teacher - Cube Learning. Helping children aged 11-12 prepare for entrance exams, teaching maths, english, verbal and non-verbal reasoning skills.
Assistant Tutor - Explore Learning. Assisting children aged 4-13 with maths and reading skills.
Private Tuition - I have been providing maths tuition sessions ad hoc for 10 years, ranging from KS3 to AS level maths, and 6 years giving economics lessons. Since tutoring on a full-time basis, I've helped over 100 students with College and Undergraduate studies. Have also taught econometrics modules where possible

Tutoring Approach:

It is not only the tutor's job to teach a certain subject, but also to build confidence in that subject. I encourage students to grasp a detailed knowledge of any basic mathematical and economic skills (ensuring all pre-requisite knowledge and skills are of standard). Once core skills are achieved, students can pick up most concepts quickly. I try to adapt learning methods to individual students, taking into account other subjects and how the student learns.

It is also imperative that students learn to think for themselves, and I encourage students to work logically and methodically leaving less room for error, and students can then correct their own work if necessary, becoming more independent. All this builds up enough confidence in a student to sit an exam and pass with ease.

When tutoring, I encourage students to engage fully in the sessions, and I'm more than willing to go above and beyond to ensure any uncertainties a student has are cleared up.
