Jessica - Portsmouth tutor

Information About Jessica:

Personal Description:

I am a Specialist Literacy Tutor with an academic background in English Literature and Philosophy. During the day I work with SEN pupils in a local Secondary School who need extra support to progress in literacy. I run spelling groups, reading comprehension classes, and provide tailored 1:1 sessions based on the 'Conquering Literacy' programme used by specialist Dyslexia units.

Teaching Experience:

I love teaching and have experience of working with students of all ages. My current role involves supporting children aged 11 - 16 with literacy and English. However I have also worked as a Teaching Assistant in a primary school, and have been employed as a Seminar Leader to teach philosophy to undergraduates at university.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a fairly relaxed and creative tutor, adapting my approach to fit the needs and strengths of each pupil as an individual. I try to encourage my students to work towards their own potentials, rather than measuring them up to artificial standards. I believe that young people need to be given the space and specialised guidance to flourish according to their own characters, and I work towards achieving that ideal.
