Personal Description:

I am a very experienced and well qualified teacher in my mid fifties, originally from East London, UK. I have recently relocated to Swansea from the West Midlands to move into my house in Brynmill. As I obtained my first degree at Swansea University I know the area quite well. I am a very patient and well organised teacher.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching for over 35 years, mainly ESOL at universities, FE colleges and language schools both in the UK and abroad (Spain, Oman, UAE). Since 1981 I have taught courses preparing students for the Cambridge ESOL Main Suite Examinations (PET, FCE, CAE, CPE, IELTS) as well as pre sessional courses for students preparing for university study. Since 2003, I have also taught Spanish at FE colleges to all levels and for the Open University. In addition, I also mark Spanish GCSE and GCE examination papers for Edexcel and OCR boards and ESOL exams for Edexcel. I have taught many private classes in English and Spanish. In my teaching career I have taught students of all ages from teenager to adult. I began my career as a teacher of history in a secondary school.

Tutoring Approach:

I have given tutoring classes on many occasions both in the UK and in Spain. I am used to dealing with all kinds of students, such as teenagers preparing for GCSE or GCE examinations, pre-university students or foreign workers in the UK wishing to improve their English, business men wishing to improve their business English skills or students wishing to learn Spanish because they wish to move to Spain or who need to learn Spanish because a member of their family has just married a Spanish speaker! I like to make learning as much fun as possible by using a wide range o materials and methods. Naturally, I have acquired a considerable amount of materials over the years I have been teaching. Nevertheless, my main aim is for students to make rapid progress in their chosen subject.

Qualifications:

• Masters in Applied Linguistics
• BA in Spanish and Latin American Studies
• PGCE - Secondary / FE trained
• BSc (Econ) in Sociology
