Information About Philip:
Personal Description:
I'm a 34 year old freelance writer and tutor who possesses a BSc Honours degree in Applied Biology as well as a Masters degree in Professional writing. I have written radio plays for BBC radio as well as features for magazines and newspapers in the Southwest. In addition, I have travelled widely in Europe teaching English and so have a broad understanding of other countries and cultures. As well as my native English I also speak Spanish.
Teaching Experience:
I have taught English as a foreign language for nearly eight years and have taught in Poland, Greece, France, Spain and the UK. During those years I have taught all levels from elementary to advanced level and from young children to older adults. In addition, to teaching English as a foreign language, I also teach creative writing courses in Bristol from people wanting to learn more about the creative process especially novels and short stories.
Tutoring Approach:
I believe in being prepared for all situations in the classroom which means my approach to lesson planning is very through and organised. My teaching manner is relaxed as I want my students to feel comfortable on order to gain as much knowledge as possible in the allotted time. This is especially important in one-to-one lessons. I endeavour to use my own materials wherever possible and depending on the level make them relevant to current topics and events. This is particular important when teaching advanced level English Language or Biology. Needless to say I am always punctual and smart.
