Personal Description:

I work as a private tutor as I enjoy the flexibility this affords me, as well as relishing the opportunity to work with students who actually want to succeed, hence my decision over ten years ago to cease classroom teaching.
I mark GCSE papers and have extensive experience of preparing students for GCSE , IGCSE and A level examinations.

Lessons in your own home or on-line via ZOOM, and I am willing to travel up to 10 miles from Barnsley.

In addition, I also offer an on-line course in Additional Mathematics, which is an ideal bridge between GCSE and A level, for those students intending to study mathematics at 6th Form

Teaching Experience:

I taught GCSE and A level maths in the classroom for ten years across the full ability range, including a spell in the independent sector, and since establishing myself as a private tutor, 100% of my students have achieved or exceeded the grade predicted for them by their schools
Working on a one to one basis, I can quickly assess a student's true grasp of topics, recognise weaknesses and address problems within the subject. Once this is done, and confidence improved, students should find that they grow to enjoy maths and look forward to demonstrating their new found confidence in lessons at school.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to teaching is relaxed, friendly and caring, which helps to create an effective learning environment, since young people learn best when they are comfortable and yet stretched just beyond their comfort zone in a non-threatening way. Each tutor session is planned for the student's particular needs, and regular monitoring and questioning takes place to ensure progression is maximised and misconceptions and errors are explored and corrected, and I am able to adjust the delivery to suit the individual student.
