Personal Description:

I have recently completed my PhD studies in the field of Genetics and Plant Pathology/Ecology. I have a first class honours degree in Environmental Biology.



Teaching Experience:

During my PhD studies I have gained experience of the teaching, supervision and assessment of students at undergraduate level. This work has involved the marking of students work. I have also tutored several students on a one to one basis.



Tutoring Approach:

I take a very relaxed attitude to tutoring aiming to provoke discussion rather than to 'preach scientific concepts' to the student. My aim is to complement the classwork of the student, rather than compete with it! I make extensive use of past exam questions, from exams specific to the individual student, as I find this allows the student to gain an understanding of the exact words the examiners are looking for. There is nothing worse than when a students answer has the right direction, but due to incorrect wording, the mark-scheme does not allow them to gain a mark.
