Personal Description:

I am an experienced teacher, examiner, educational writer and tutor, combining all of my knowledge from these roles as I encourage pupils to make good progress. I have been a head of department in two schools and a local authority English consultant, besides acting as a senior examiner at GCSE for one of the major examination boards. My experience is unique, ensuring I can share with pupils the best strategies to make good progress. Under my guidance, students have gone on to make more than two grades of progress on top of their predicted grades at GCSE.

As a tutor, I work with students to identify their strengths and weaknesses in reading and writing, then identifies a series of lessons that help my students improve their grades. Lessons are specifically and individually tailored to meet students' needs and include a wide range of teaching approaches and materials. I write all her own material and do not rely on textbooks or worksheets downloaded from the internet, taking the view that these are activities a student can undertake by themselves.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching English to A level for 15 years. During that time I have been a head of department twice and a local authority consultant for English, advising other teachers on teaching English at 11-18. I've been a senior examiner since 2003 at GCSE and I also mark at A level. I have been a senior marker at KS3 also. I have been tutoring for ten years and I've worked with over 100 pupils, all of whom made above average progress.

Tutoring Approach:

In a world that decreases in size through internet use, I can also offer tuition over the internet using a webcam and interactive teaching board. In this way, even students who live in other counties or even other countries can work with me. If you have an instant messaging system, a webcam, a microphone and speakers, tuition can take place in a virtual session where you can still benefit from one-to-one tuition. This may be of particular appeal to students for whom travel would be an issue or who cannot access tutors in other ways.
