Personal Description:

I work as as a private tutor of German, French, Spanish, and EFL (English as a Foreign Language). Please see the sections below for further details of my background and general approach.

I also work as a private teacher /trainer with companies who need to learn languages for business purposes. PLEASE NOTE: If you represent a commercial company OR a training company who sends language tutors into companies, please note that my normal hourly rate for this type of tuition (business training) is £30 plus travel expenses. The higher rate is a reflection of the extra work involved in designing tailor-made learning programs specifically for business purposes. Thank you.

Teaching Experience:

I teach German or French to GCSE and A-level /university entrance, and Spanish to GCSE-level. I also teach English as a Foreign Language (EFL).

As a fluent speaker of German, French and Spanish, I have taught these languages for the last 25 years. My teaching experience is wide and varied and includes private tutoring, community education, company /business language training and English as a Foreign Language (EFL), both for EFL schools and at the University of Wales. I have also worked full-time in state Comprehensive schools and have taught at an International School in Germany.

Tutoring Approach:

I like to spend a lot of time concentrating on improving the speaking and listening skills of my pupils and adult learners, as this is what helps most to build their confidence in using a language. I also believe that grammar is very important in learning a language properly, and ask that pupils /learners complete some simple grammar exercises between lessons in order to maximise their learning and to really progress in the language. However, since learning a language is all about USING it, I do not overburden my pupils /learners with too much grammar or unnecessary extra work.

I like to think that my pupils /learners really enjoy their lessons with me and am totally committed to their progress and to building confidence in them. Regarding my track record, it may be useful to know that all of my students who took exams in 2012 all obtained 'A' and 'B' grades. I can also provide references and a CRB check if required.

Finally, I should point out that I also need to charge a small travel fee in order to cover my petrol costs. Naturally, travel fees vary according to distance - please contact me for further details.

Qualifications:

• B.A. (Honours) Degree in German and French combined language studies, 2.1
• City & Guilds 730-7 Further and Adult Education Teachers' Certificate
• Open University Certificate in IT and Computing (Cert IT & Comp - Open)
• A-level Spanish
