Teaching Experience:
I am currently working at a school following the British curriculum in Qatar and prior to this taught for 7 years in the UAE up to AP level, which is a very high level program In the US. Prior to my international experience I worked for 4 years at a comprehensive school in Reading. I have specialised in both Chemistry and Biology at A-level and have teaching and tutoring experience in both of these subjects.
I have more than 10 years experience (including a year during my PGCE at Oxford) in teaching up to A level and beyond in Chemistry, Biology and Human Biology. I teach all three Science subjects including Physics up to GCSE. I have experience in teaching AP level Chemistry, OCR Salters and EdExcel in Chemistry and Biology at A level and a number of different boards at GCSE level. I have also tutored the eBAC higher qualification in Chemistry.
I have tutored a number of pupils in Mathematics at GCSE level, one of which has since taken on Mathematics at A level as a direct result of the tutoring experience, achieving an A (previously predicted a D) in her GCSE.
Unfortunately because of my location I can only teach online so will need to rely on Zoom, Skype etc however, I don't believe this is a problem and can be an advantage as I rely on using a range of technology to help explain concepts.
Tutoring Approach:
I believe that tutoring is a two way process that will be more successful if the student wants to learn and how well the tutor can explain a concept so that the tutee can understand. In order to achieve this I try to make tuition enjoyable and interesting, and try to boost the students confidence in themselves.
Being a teacher I am fortunate to be able to use teaching resources in my tutoring and focus on exam paper preparation as well as explaining concepts.
I use a lot of technology and apps to help students to visualize and understand concepts. I also use fun interactive teaching tools such as Quizlet, Quizizz and Kahoot to engages and make learning fun as it should be.
