Josh - Witham tutor
Information About Josh:
Personal Description:
I am a 16-year-old currently taking History, Politics, Philosophy and German at A-Level. I am studying at King Edward VI Grammar School in Chelmsford. As the eldest of seven (soon to become eight), I have assisted with school work at all levels from primary school to GCSE level. For those who are interested, I earned 1 A*, 10 A and 2 B grades in my GCSEs last year. Apart from school, I am a keen sportsman, having played just about every sport most people can think of (and some they have never heard of!). I like to think of myself as being easy to get on with, although I may have to leave that decision up to the parents and tutees! I also have something of a passion for a classic general knowledge, being part of a team of National Schools' Championship Finals in 2006. It is debatable whether the relevance of this fact and whether I become your tutor, but I like to brag. Sorry!
Teaching Experience:
No official experience as of yet, though as the eldest of seven I do end up helping at various levels of school work.
Tutoring Approach:
As a student myself, I am sympathetic to the situation and the stress the tutee will be under. Therefore, I strongly believe that a relaxed and friendly environment is where you learn most effectively. Therefore I will be somewhat informal, although always on topic, any will attempt to adapt any lesson to suit the needs of each individual.
A generic lesson plan might go as follows:
Firstly, a very short recap of the previous lesson, to ensure the subject has been understood fully. Secondly, an explanation of the lesson plan and an objective for the session. Thirdly, the main part of the lesson, which would depend entirely on the subject. This would be explaining the events in question in History, reading a section of a book in English, and so on. Following this, I would attempt to introduce and explain the value of these (such as explaining the meaning of a poem, or showing practical examples of the new verbs in German). Finally, there would be a short Q&A session, in which the tutee would make clear any part of the lesson he/she did not understand, and any problems would be re-examined. I tend to stick relatively rigidly to this plan, although the timings of each may vary depending on the subject, and indeed the tutee.
