Christopher - Cambridge tutor

Information About Christopher:

Personal Description:

I'm a postgraduate student of clinical Veterinary Medicine at the University of Cambridge, with research interests in the neurological and reproductive disorders of wild animals. I am extremely patient, good natured and understanding.
I am thoroughly excited by the prospect of being able to share the knowledge and ideas in the biological sciences that I have accumulated over the past decade, and am keen to maintain a role in teaching or tutoring of some description well into my professional career.

Teaching Experience:

1. 6 months working in the United States teaching local schoolchildren (ages 7 to 18) about aquatic and marine conservation.

2. Four day study programme teaching university members about reproductive diseases and pathology in exotic mammals.

3. Numerous online tutoring programs run through both the University of Cambridge (providing application support for Veterinary Medicine and Medicine degrees), as well as online e-mentoring in Biology, Chemistry and Zoology to A' Level students.

Tutoring Approach:

A calm, measured approach, yet one which firmly corrects misconceptions, backed up by additional, multiple lines of explanation in order to bring clarity to difficult concepts. I recognise the importance of long-term goals, as well as short ones, and adjust my teaching approach and the level of delivery accordingly until a student is entirely comfortable with the key concepts.

I believe the grasping of over-riding principles to be far more important than mindlessly memorising facts, and that such facts hang better from a more solid framework. Regular multichoice, short answer and extended answer question papers form an integral part of my delivery, but the precise context of these is obviously dependent on the nature of the subject and qualification being studied.
