Personal Description:
Austin is an internationally recognised singer and teacher of singing and is on the professorial staff at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music & Drama and an approved tutor in performance at Durham University and previously taught at Hull University, Leeds University, Glasgow University and York University as well as in schools. He has performed with leading conductors, orchestras and directors throughout Europe with companies including Edinburgh International Festival, English National Opera, Scottish Opera, Longborough Festival Opera, Berwick Festival Opera, the Musica Na Fabrica Festival in Portugal, Zurich Ballet and Ars Cantata in Switzerland as well as concert tours in Sweden, France and Italy.
He has done extensive work in schools with the education department of ENO, is director of Rocket Opera and previously director of Leeds Youth Opera 2019/2020 and director of vocal studies of OperaLabUK and has given masterclasses at universities, the National Student Opera Society, for OperaLab in Brussels and at the Cite Internationale des Arts in Paris as well as being adjudicator for the International School Musician of the Year Award in China and the Vocal Festival at Repton School.
He became Vice President of Ryton & District Music Festival in 2025.
His students sing at opera houses and concert halls throughout the world as well as some who have moved into technical theatre directing and producing opera with national and international companies.
