I have been studying Spanish, French and Italian for many years and have gained numerous qualifications. Living in several European countries has also enabled me to develop my language skills to the extent that I am now confident in my ability to teach these languages to others.

I am currently studying for a TEFL course to update my teaching skills.

Teaching Experience:

I completed Nuclear Power Engineering degree studies in 1990 after 6 years of training in Havana and Moscow. Between 1990 and 2004, I worked as a Biomedical researcher in the fields of Immunology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology and Vaccine Development. I have been an external marker (Mathematics in English and Spanish languages) for the International Baccalaureate Organisation for the last two years. Born in Cuba, Spanish is my mother tongue, thus i am able to tutor at any level in these two subjects: Mathematics and Spanish.

In the last 14 years, I have had the opportunity to teach both in Scotland and England, thus I am familiar with mathematics teaching programmes in both locations. This includes pupils at all stages of secondary education from 11-14 up to Advanced Highers/Advanced A-levels. I specialise slightly more in Spanish but teach both Spanish and French to GCSE, IGCSE, A-level and Pre-U and IB. Although I learned all my foreign languages through a rigorous method very much based on writing and grammar, I am happy to adapt my method to my pupil's needs. With large class sizes and often a lack of individual speaking practice, pupils can lack confidence and not achieve their full potential in their exams or lessons in school. This overwhelm students and could stress them as they may find they have not had enough time or opportunities to prepare themselves for the Speaking Exam or writing skills.
It is, essential to review past papers and study the specific requirements for a given exam; however, this is not everything, and I believe that there are some more general principles which help across the board. For example, writing techniques, translation, and of course motivation and focusing in grammar will help to achieve the best possible outcome.
Regarding A level, I know perfectly how to help students to obtain the highest scores in their exams as I am an external examiner who marks A level exam for Edexcel and AQA.I have attended numerous workshops for films and literature, besides my knowledge obtained from my Journalism degree and Spanish schooling.
