Congratulations for choosing the most challenging and complicating language to learn! Good news: Russian is fascinating, by the end of the "journey", you will be confident enough to speak to a Russian in the street or even upgrade your page with information in Russian, to strike your friends with a few bespoken facts about Russia or probably invite your friends to join you for the mountain climbing in the Altai or kayaking in Baikal Lake. I should warn you may fall in love with Russian language and may even dare to start an advanced course after which you are very likely to wake up one morning with a strong desire to see Bolshoi Ballet or fall asleep with "War and Peace" in your hands.

Let me briefly describe you my past experience. I was born in Saint-Petersburg and graduated from Russain State University of Foreign Languages, I have a master's degree in teaching of modern languages. I have been working first at school, then privately for more than 15 years.

I started teaching Russian at Trent College in Derbyshire as an extra-curricular activity for a group of students in year 7-8 and 9, providing all the teaching materials and authentic programme. I covered all the main parts in terms of philology and diverse the lessons with curious facts about the country, traditions and customs. At the end of one term course, students had basic skills in reading and writing, they were able to introduce themselves and speak on common themes (hobbies, cuisine, travelling etc). Hi guys, to start off with my academic background: I studied at Winchester College and Cambridge University.

I was generally a straight A* student at Winchester, and in my final exams I received some of the highest Cambridge Pre-U grades in the UK for my subjects of Philosophy & Theology, Russian and French (these were D1, D1, D2 - which translates in A-Level terms to A**, A**, A*). At Cambridge I studied a mix of Theology and Philosophy, with a focus on philosophy (ethics and metaphysics), history and literature papers.

In terms of my personal background: I was born in London and have lived in Islington most of my life. I've travelled a great deal, and in my gap year I spent stretches of time living in and travelling around America, Italy, Malta, Russia, Jordan and Pakistan.

In my free time I like classic cinema (Hitchcock especially) and novels (Tolstoy, Dostoevsky and Dickens are my favourites) but I'm curious about everything really, and I read books of any kind whenever I have the time - especially those relating to History (classical and modern), Philosophy, Theology, Politics, and Literary Analysis.

For most of my professional life so far I've worked as a salesman, lawyer and corporate strategist. I'm confident in taking lessons online as long as it's through video. My teaching approach is very interactive and only through facial expressions, can I truly see if my tutees are understanding the topics / subjects I'm covering.
My prior experience in babysitting and also having three children has taught me not only patience, but compassion and understanding. I maintain a positive and encouraging attitude at all times, so that my tutees also feel confident and are able to ask me questions without feeling intimidated. I have been teaching English, including Advanced level and English for specific purposes, for 29 years. I have Cambridge Advanced and Proficiency in English certificates as well as CELTA (grade B). A lot of my students successfully passed Cambridge First Certificate in English, Cambridge Advanced English and IELTS. Russian is my native language and I have taught it to people from many different countries.

I am a native speaker of Russian and a Head of a very successful Russian department in a grammar school in London. I teach pupils from year 7 to 13.
I have been teaching languages in the UK for the past 25 years and pride myself in helping my students achieve their dream of studying Russian at Oxbridge and other Russel group universities. Many of my pupils fall in love with the language and carry that love throughout their lives. I am a teacher-examiner for GCSE and A level Edexcel Pearson examboard.
