I graduated from Cambridge University with a BA in English Literature, and then from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, graduating with a BA in acting, where I was the recipient of the Noel Coward Scholarship from 2008-2011. In July 2011 I won the Michael Bryant Award at the National Theatre, for verse speaking and Shakespeare.

When I'm not acting or tutoring I can be found in the plumbing, plastering, kitchen or grappling with a cryptic crossword.

My approach to tutoring is tailored to the individual's needs; firstly finding ways of fully explaining a concept, then cementing them with useful and memorable material to build students' confidence. My main objective would be to aid the student in understanding not only the specifics of the work but also the broader aspects of it, which I believe provides a truer grounding in - and enjoyment of - a subject. By making the work useful and enjoyable, and by finding alternative and effective approaches to study, I hope that my tuition will shed new light on subjects for students.

About Me. I'm now taking on a small number of private students, as my university commitments have settled. I currently lecture at the University of Salford and have over 28 years of teaching experience. I'm a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, a Visiting Lecturer at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge, and also teach in São Paulo, Brazil. I embarked on two Postgraduate Diplomas at Aleppo University one in Linguistics (2002); the other in Education and Qualification in 2003. In both of these Diplomas I was awarded a Distinction. In 2002, I was fortunate in gaining a scholarship to study in the UK and was nominated to study in the department of Language and Linguistics at the University of Essex. It is the application of an integrating approach for the development of communicative skills in the lesson, in which the four skills in the acquisition of knowledge of a foreign language can be taught in a coherent way, and practiced together, with a distinction of the importance of one upon the other. Study skills tutoring: I provide this as an agreed package where I am your child's 'exam buddy' for a period of time. This involves me supporting your child through a stressful time in their lives. I help them to plan their time and create revision timetables, plans, resources and so on. I would check in with them on agreed days/ times via skype to see how they are doing with their studies and revision on the lead up to exams and assessments and help to support them through this. I provide this for students working towards any assessments such as 11+, GCSE's A'Levels and any other level 2 or 3 courses. This is a holistic educational support service for a fixed period. My Pug 'Tiggy' often joins in with the skype for younger students which can support them in keeping it fun and interesting and help them to stay on target. I have a thorough knowledge of teaching the curriculum within early years through to year 6, and wherever possible, will tailor lessons according to the children's loves and interests to increase motivation.

My teaching style can be adapted to support children who are home educated and perhaps may seek a more informal or holistic approach to teaching. Similarly, with children attending school, I have experience and knowledge in closely following the national curriculum. I can target 'known' gaps in learning that may have been noted by parents or teachers, as well as provide assessment sessions which will give me clear targets in order to achieve progress.

Tutoring Approach:
My approach to tutoring is to devise tailor-made, fun and interactive learning activities that will challenge but engage your child to achieve their next steps in learning. I am flexible to offering half hour sessions, particularly for younger children (aged 4 or 5 years old) that may struggle with a 45 minute or one hour session.

Lessons are often pacey, varied and interactive in order to achieve maximum motivation for your child.

I am also willing to incorporate time to discuss next steps with parents/carers in order to support your children's progress outside of the tutoring session. I can provide extra learning materials on request to allow your child further practise in a skill during the week if necessary.

Due to the age of the children I tutor, face- to-face sessions tend to work best, although some upper junior children cope well with zoom lessons.

I have tutored the 11+ for four years, and am familiar with all common exam boards (GL, CEM, CSSE). Two received offers from Ilford and Woodford county, their first choice grammar school, while the other passed the exam for other grammar schools in the borough.
