This coaching-based approach I take has proven highly successful. I approach each student and the sessions with an open mind to learn what I need to be of support.

Combining motivational coaching techniques, I offer a uniquely engaging, personally attuned service. The first lesson typically consists of a complimentary educational assessment (usually 30 minutes) to help identify key areas for improvement . All results can be shared with the parent/guardian. Based on this initial assessment, a 100% individual and tailored programme of learning is created. Teaching Experience:
I started working as a tutor in London and Surrey in 2013/2014, mainly for students who had been excluded from school. In 2015 I relocated and began tutoring private clients in East Anglia. In 2016 I started offering online tuition, first using Skype, and now with Zoom. I now tutor virtually all of my students online, though I will occasionally tutor at a student's home when my schedule permits.

Tutoring Approach:
For younger students, I assess them on their first appointment to see where their strengths and weaknesses are. I then focus the lessons on the areas they need improvement in, using an individualized approach that is suitable for that particular student. I like to ask questions of the tutees to get them to think, but also to connect the work with what they may have already experienced. For example, when teaching Health and Social Care concepts, it is important to link this to the world around them, including what they may have seen recently in the news.

I would usually spend a few minutes at the beginning and end of each session just to check in with how the tutee is doing and what they would like to accomplish to make sure it is a productive session for them.

Hi, I am Lynette, and I am originally from Singapore. I am a native English and Mandarin, Chinese speaker, and have lived in the UK since 2013. Currently, I am finishing up my PhD in neuroscience (in the final stages) where I work frequently with children with and without learning disabilities and/or neurodevelopment disorders. I have been giving tuition since the age of 16 years. I have taught in both formal teaching settings (i.e. government primary school, tuition centre and psychology at university level) and also in private tuition settings (i.e., one-to-one lessons or small group lessons). Over the years, I have gained a variety of experience teaching toddlers from the age of 2 years to young adults preparing for the HSK International exams or A levels, and also older adults who were learning Mandarin as a hobby, or to learn some useful phrases to speak to their in-laws or per the requirements of their work. Therefore, I am comfortable teaching all ages, and whatever the reason for taking up the language. I have also taught in both face-face settings and online (especially during the Covid period) so I am happy to teach in whichever setting that is best for you. Over the years, I have had students with physical disability (i.e. blindness) and neurodevelopment disorders (I.e. Asperger syndrome) so I am comfortable and familiar with changing my teaching technique to suit each student.

My main approach to tutoring is the principle that there is not a one size fits all teaching method. Every child or adult learns differently, and therefore there is no one approach that will suit everyone. I believe in changing my style to the needs of each student; for example, some students might learn better with visual aid, then I would choose to incorporate more visual material in our lessons. Specifically for little ones, I do not believe in a sit down and learn approach, I have found success in incorporating games into our learning. Hi, I'm Pedro. I was born in Portugal but have lived in England since I was 9. I'm currently studying BSc in Psychology at Bournemouth University and I really enjoy my degree. I am particularly interested in clinical psychology and as a result since April 2022 I've been volunteering at 'Hammersley Homes', a charity which focuses on helping adults with mental illness. A few hours a week I visit someone who finds himself adjusting back into society, he has autism and bipolar. We speak, go on walks, cycle or listen to music together. I have learnt a lot about how difficult certain people find life. This experience has really helped me to be more empathetic, caring and positive.
I also really enjoy surfing, jogging and cooking.

Teaching Experience:
I took up a role as 'PAL' leader at my university where I was given a classroom of 20 first year psychology students. Although the role involved me 'facilitating' instead of 'teaching'. I spoke to my 'students' every week on what content they were struggling with, since I had done the same content the year prior, I compiled and summarised content which I had been taught and created power point slides to give them direction and a better understanding on the content. I also emphasised taking care of mental health and getting involved with the community.

I was nervous at first, worried about speaking too fast or having awkward silences but after a few sessions I found myself loving it. I received really good feedback from students and supervisor who suggested I should be a teacher because I made the sessions really engaging.
