I have been playing the drums for over twenty years, and teaching them for over ten. I have been regularly performing live, recording, and touring since 2001. I am comfortable and experienced in many genres: rock, pop, hip-hop, metal, blues, and jazz.
My career highlights include:
- playing sold-out shows in Paris, Madrid, and Krakow
- writing and performing backing music for a theatre production in London
- writing and performing a library record of drum beats and original compositions for the King Underground record label.

Teaching Experience:
I have been teaching the drums since 2011, from children as young as 4 to adults as old as 64. I have received consistently positive feedback from students and students' parents, and teaching is something that I find tremendously rewarding. I have taught theory, sight reading, and have helped students prepare for the Trinity graded exams.

Tutoring Approach:
I learned very early on in my teaching career that there is no 'one size fits all' formula for helping people to learn an instrument. Some people benefit from the structure provided by working towards music exams, while others simply want to jam and play their favourite songs. Alongside teaching, I am interested in providing music-making workshops to local schools. I am also in discussion with the Worcestershire communities, to provide singing sessions for the elderly. Singing provides great enjoyment to many people, and working with community choirs is another factor of teaching I am interested in, as choral music is another great passion of mine. I enjoy composing new music and was honoured with having a recent Christmas composition performed in Bath Abbey's carol service.

I am a graduate of the University of Huddersfield, where I studied 'Music and Sound For Image'. I achieved a first-class degree, as well as the 'Audio-visual prize' from my University for my work composing music to film.

I am confident, enthusiastic, friendly and get on well with students of all ages. I have worked at summer camps in the United States twice for 9 weeks each, living amongst 11-17 year olds 24/7 so have a great deal of patience! I am as open to teaching any young person who wants to learn and will adapt to whatever their needs and style of learning are.

I have led extra-curricular activities and clubs for children in the past; I also mentored several young students through school (while still a secondary school student myself) as a result of them having difficulties, and have been trusted to lead classes (with teacher supervision) in order to gain teaching experience.

My name is Michael and I teach private one to one drum kit lessons to people of all ages, in and around the Yorkshire area. I have been playing the drum kit for over 20 years and started playing at the early age of 11. Since then I have been in many bands and performed in many venues in and around the Yorkshire area.
After studying music at school in Scotland and forming my first band I soon found myself addicted to the drum kit. I decided I wanted to further my skills by getting private drum kit lessons which helped me gain my Standard Grade/GCSE and Higher Grade/A-Level in Music. I then furthered this by studying a BTEC in Popular Music at Huddersfield Technical College and a BA (Hons) in Popular Music at the University of Sheffield. I have also recently completed my PGCE in Life Long Learning at the University of Huddersfield and hold QTLS with IfL.

Teaching Experience:
I had my first teaching experience when I was 16 years old at a music workshop during the summer holidays where I was involved in teaching groups of people how to play the drum kit within a band setting. At the end of the workshops each group that had formed had to perform their songs to the public.

Since then I always had a desire to pursue my teaching and in 2006 I started teaching at Rhythm Inc Music Tuition in Barnsley. Initially, I only had a couple of students that I would teach in my spare time between my job and other commitments. However, more students started coming and having only started with a couple I soon had enough to become self-employed and put my all into my teaching.

In 2007 I started teaching at Take 2 Music Academy in Birdwell, Barnsley and at Rockem Music in Rotherham. I have taught at other private music schools and in local schools in the Yorkshire area. I also have experience delivering group workshops within both private and local schools.

Currently, in 2012 I opened my own teaching studio based in Wakefield, and continue to teach at Rhythm Inc Music Tuition in Barnsley, Take 2 Music Academy in Birdwell, Barnsley and at Rockem Music in Rotherham. After successfully completing my bachelor in Jazz Saxophone at the Conservatoire of Trento (Italy), I moved to Milan where I have balanced studies and work for almost 2 years. Although I specialise in saxophone and jazz, I am able to teach the recorder, flute, and (classical) music theory.

I first began to take interest in education in late 2016 during my second year of studies at Falmouth University, after undertaking 'skills for music leaders' module, where I studied different approaches to formal and non-formal music education. In September 2017, I have taken my ambitions to teach guitar further and fully dedicated my third year of studies to learn about ethics in music education, and began work experience with Cornwall Music Service Trust.
