I am a retired fully qualified English teacher with a good English degree and postgraduate qualifications, along with many years of experience.

I realised long ago that it isn't easy for some students to reach their potential in large classes where perhaps a natural lack of confidence, shyness, peer pressure or even less-than-ideal behaviour from others in the classroom can work against even their best efforts. That's where a good tutor can be transformative. I began teaching later in life, after a successful marketing career in the pharmaceutical industry. This unusual background for a teacher has been of great benefit to my teaching, giving me confidence gained from experiences of travelling the world. The large number of 4 and 5* references on this and other tuition websites provide worthwhile evidence for this.

As well as tutor, I have also been a writer and editor for some major educational publishers including the BBC, C4 and EduSites, writing and editing many revision guides for GCSE and A-level, as well as having been the BBC Bitesize English teacher for some years, responding to students' queries. Schools can struggle to help quiet students but this is an area in which I can fairly say I excel.

I volunteered as part time help at Luddington and Garthorpe primary school in North Lincolnshire.
