I have been a classroom teacher for 20 years, but have recently branched out to become a PE specialist, whilst I have still teach some maths and English I would like to teach more, whilst still keeping my current position. My approach is very student centric - focused on the needs of the student. If I believe theory is lacking, I will explain the theory in a comprehensive way. If I believe application is missing, I will go over many questions, guiding the student through them. I have a mix of my own questions and past paper questions that I use. As the exams draw nearer I will focus more on past papers.

I also give each student, if they or the parents want it, activities to do which I will mark at the next session. This is like homework except I will try to make it more engaging and fun. None of my activities are generalised - I will base each on what the student requires. For example, in the past my activities have ranged from book work, to a problem solving puzzle to solve over the course of the week, to an essay, to even a relatively light exercise of reading any magazine article and giving a presentation on it.

I am a recent graduate from The University of Birmingham in Pure Mathematics achieving an upper second class degree (2:1). I was drawn to the field of mathematics from a very young age. I guess that I was intrigued by the vast range of concepts in the real world that can be represented with huge accuracy. From finding hugely accurate values that would be impossible to measure in reality (such as the exact size and direction of the force needed to apply to a golf ball to get a perfect hole in one any time), to hiding information and creating impossible to crack secret codes that can be to hard for the most powerful computers but can be simple enough for any good mathematician to solve with just a pen and paper. Even though it wan't at all necessary, I learnt this, and still enjoy secretly communicating with other students. I also even help other students at the same level as me who didn't completely understand certain areas as well as i did. The same it true that I required help on the topics I couldn't understand well.

Teaching Experience:
My experiences of tuition are that I have spent the last year giving the odd lesson to a few A-Level students that are struggling in mathematics to help raise their grades up. Further, as part of my university experience, i spent one hour per week for a year tutoring disadvantaged students at a local secondary school. I have also had some experience teaching a lower secondary school student some parts of the syllabus she was struggling with.

Tutoring Approach:
As a tutor, I will cover all aspects of the course, not only whichever topics are not very well understood. Hello my name is Anne-Marie, I am from Ireland but have been living in the UK since 2004. This is now a place I call home. I realised I had a flare for imparting knowledge when I became a basketball trainer at 15, working with Primary and Secondary pupils. Hi, I'm a year 13 student with currently 3 offers for medicine and awaiting to hear from the 4th, I have tutored other students from year 3 up until year 9. I really enjoy working with students to help them feel more confident in their subjects. I got 9 for GCSE maths, biology, chemistry and physics and would love to help anyone that is struggling in those subjects. I got all A's in my first year of A level Chemistry, Biology and Maths and am consistently getting A*'s in the second year. In my UCAT I scored 2890, which was in the 92nd percentile and I also got a Band 1 for the situational judgement test. I appreciate that the medical application process can be daunting so I am more than happy to help with that! Hi, I'm Pedro. I was born in Portugal but have lived in England since I was 9. I'm currently studying BSc in Psychology at Bournemouth University and I really enjoy my degree. I am particularly interested in clinical psychology and as a result since April 2022 I've been volunteering at 'Hammersley Homes', a charity which focuses on helping adults with mental illness. A few hours a week I visit someone who finds himself adjusting back into society, he has autism and bipolar. We speak, go on walks, cycle or listen to music together. I have learnt a lot about how difficult certain people find life. This experience has really helped me to be more empathetic, caring and positive.
I also really enjoy surfing, jogging and cooking.

I took up a role as 'PAL' leader at my university where I was given a classroom of 20 first year psychology students. Although the role involved me 'facilitating' instead of 'teaching'. I spoke to my 'students' every week on what content they were struggling with, since I had done the same content the year prior, I compiled and summarised content which I had been taught and created power point slides to give them direction and a better understanding on the content. I also emphasised taking care of mental health and getting involved with the community.

I was nervous at first, worried about speaking too fast or having awkward silences but after a few sessions I found myself loving it. I received really good feedback from students and supervisor who suggested I should be a teacher because I made the sessions really engaging.

I like helping younger students in any way possible, in year 10, I helped those who have come from foreign countries or have a lower reading level and have difficulty reading to become fluent readers through a 'reading buddies' programme. That was when I realised that I am good at teaching and helping students. After that I tutored the younger children in family and friends and helped them get amazing grades for SAT'S and gcse's and I want to extend this to everyone that wants to receive good grades and achieve their dreams. So now, i want to put my knowledge to some use- hence why i am here.

Teaching Experience:
I received 5 grade-8's in my Gcse's this year, including Biology, Chemistry, physics, maths, english literature, and 4 grade-7's in french, history, further maths, english language. My revision techniques are clearly effective and want to help students who want to learn and set their goals in life. I can also help with giving advice for a levels as I am currently studying biology, Chemistry and Mathematics at a level myself. There are multiple different ways to learn and I can help find the right way to learn for you. After having tutored many of my friends and family in the younger years, I realised that I have a passion for teaching as I can make even the most mediocre thing interesting and understandable. I am open to teaching online virtually, so you don't even have to travel anywhere- all at a reasonable price! Each lesson will be approximately an hour long, whenever at your convenience as long as I can find time on my schedule as well to teach.

Personal Description:
I hold a first-class master's of civil engineering from a Russel Group University. At A-Level I received the following: A* Maths, A* Geography, and A Physics. Professionally, I have interned with the UK government's Environment Agency, worked as a project engineer in Hong Kong, and am currently undertaking a research internship in Space Applications for Geographic Information Systems in Disaster Risk Reduction at the United Nations. I am knowledgeable in a wide range of practical topics for young people, such as writing personal statements, CVs, degree choices and finding internships. If requested, I am always happy to advise on these topics alongside my tutoring!

Teaching Experience:
Throughout college I helped and supported my fellow peers with maths and geography during lunch drop-in hours. In university I undertook the role of being president of the Civil Engineering Society where I led other students and publically spoke. Aside from academic tutoring, I have twice been a summer camp councellor for people aged 9-16 where I taught sports and outdoor adventure related activities.

Tutoring Approach:
I aim to tutor from an equal level, rather than simply talking at students, I have always preferred to make teaching into a conversation where it's imperative that the student feels listened to and acknowledged. I understand that every brain works differently so novel approaches must be tried to find out what works for each specific student. I would only ever set light homework simply because I feel that it is useful for reinforcing what has been taught between lessons. Additionally, I am happy to provide additional support to any Tutees on writing of personal statements for university, and advice on courses/university options, and any other topics! I'd rather provide holistic support, avoiding siloed and narrow approaches to teaching.
