I am 35 years old and I have most recently completed the LPC at the University of Law. I have already completed a GDL (Graduate Diploma in Law) at the same university. I also have an undergraduate 2.1 with Honors degree in French and Italian at The University of Manchester. I have spent 6 months in Bologna in Italy, working in a private language school for those wished to learn either Italian or English. I worked as a copywriter for the school website, working in French, Italian and English. I also worked as a conversation tutor to those who wanted to learn English. I was part of the teaching team for both European Law modules at Queen's University Belfast for four years. At university, I was the Editor-in-Chief of the prestigious Oxford University Undergraduate Law Journal. Hi, I'm Pedro. I was born in Portugal but have lived in England since I was 9. I'm currently studying BSc in Psychology at Bournemouth University and I really enjoy my degree. I am particularly interested in clinical psychology and as a result since April 2022 I've been volunteering at 'Hammersley Homes', a charity which focuses on helping adults with mental illness. A few hours a week I visit someone who finds himself adjusting back into society, he has autism and bipolar. We speak, go on walks, cycle or listen to music together. I have learnt a lot about how difficult certain people find life. This experience has really helped me to be more empathetic, caring and positive.
I also really enjoy surfing, jogging and cooking.

I took up a role as 'PAL' leader at my university where I was given a classroom of 20 first year psychology students. Although the role involved me 'facilitating' instead of 'teaching'. I spoke to my 'students' every week on what content they were struggling with, since I had done the same content the year prior, I compiled and summarised content which I had been taught and created power point slides to give them direction and a better understanding on the content. I also emphasised taking care of mental health and getting involved with the community.

This has included National Probation Service trained tutoring in accredited courses, lead tutoring on an award-winning course for the Trafford area teaching psycho-social and employability skills, and even, for over two years (inspired initially by the Pandemic!), teaching English, one-to-one, online to students of all ages and from all over the world. I am now a dedicated tutor in my subject specialism of Law.

Tutoring Approach:
Tailored, one-to-one support in Law, specialising in A Level. I tutor exclusively online (so no need to be local!) and classes are typically one hour in duration. I truly believe revision and examination techniques are skills in themselves and as such, can be developed to often significantly improve grades.

I have a friendly and empathetic style. I enjoy helping students to simplify the complex, adopt a methodical approach to application scenarios and evaluation questions, and to feel calm and confident approaching exams. It is my hope that all of my students feel a sense of satisfaction, achievement and enjoyment as they develop their knowledge and understanding of what is an often challenging but fascinating area of study.

Personal Description:
I am a dynamic and highly experienced Head of History with over 16 years experience in the secondary classroom. . I achieved my NQT status at the Blue School, Wells and held the leadership responsibilty for Citizenship Yr 7 to Yr 11. I also taught KS3 to KS5 History throughout my time there. In 2010 my son was born, moving to West Somerset as Head of History (again KS3 to KS5). I retired in 2017 to care for my youngest son, who in 2013 was born with Cerebral Palsy. I needed to focus on the care and needs of my son and did not feel able to do the same for my students and department. Following this I have spent 7 years maneuvering the incredibly emotional, wonderful yet absolutely relentless world of disability, ECHP's, local authorities, therapists, schools, hospitals and so on so forth. My son has an amazing team of professionals, is content and in Yr 8 of a local mainstream school and flying.

Teaching Experience:
My son is 100% happy and supported and now it is my time to move forward with my career. To offer private tuition is my way of doing so. I am up to recent educational developments. I have privately tutored in Dunster successfully at GCSE. I have spent 8 of my teaching years as a PGCE mentor and an NQT mentor- with two NQT's now teaching as Head of History at two private schools in Somerset- can provide details if needed.

I have a proven track record of driving significant improvements in student attainment and fostering a deep passion for the subject. For example, I introduced History as a coursework qualification for students who loved History yet found the content (reading exam questions) and expectations of a GCSE papers too much- succeeding with 100% pass and super happy faces on results day. I also introduced GCSE Citizenship to offer a wider range of critical thinking and analysis skills- ultimately helping subjects such as History, English and Life Skills. I I am DBS registered.
