My name is Ewan, I'm 36 years old and from Glasgow. After completing my BA (Hons) in Glasgow, I moved to Manchester to do a Master's in History; subsequently I completed my PGCE, MA in Education, and an MBA. Throughout this further study I have ran a History department, Humanities Faculty, and now run a Sixth Form College. My approach to proof-editing / English checking is to look primarily at the language. For some clients - university students in particular - it is not appropriate to offer an editorial service as this goes against the rules of university submissions. However, where I think a mistake has been made or something is not clearly expressed - and it is not a simple matter of correcting the language - then I will flag it up to the student so they can look at it again.

My main aim with my tutees is to build their confidence and enthusiasm for the subject. To this end I concentrate on teaching the skills they require to achieve the grades they want. 1) Expertise in the Subject: Strong knowledge and understanding of the subject you're tutoring is essential. My mastery of subject material allows me to explain concepts clearly and answer questions accurately. Thousand of hours of study for both GCSE's and A-Levels has lead me to create excellent A* level notes for students.

2) Effective Communication: Being able to explain complex ideas in simple terms is a key skill for a tutor. My ability to convey information clearly and adapt my communication style to the student's learning preferences is crucial.

3) Patience and Empathy: Not all students grasp concepts at the same pace. Patience and empathy are vital qualities that allow me to work through difficulties with students and create a comfortable learning environment.

4) Adaptability: Each student has a unique learning style. Being able to adapt teaching methods to suit the individual needs of each student can greatly enhance their understanding and engagement.

5) Active Listening: Understanding a student's challenges and questions requires active listening. By carefully listening, I can address their specific needs and tailor your tutoring accordingly.

Tutoring Approach:
Online based tutor using Zoom or Google Meet.

1) Assessment and Goal Setting: I begin by assessing the student's current knowledge and understanding of the subject, whilst discussing the student's goals and expectations for the tutoring sessions.

2) Individualised learning plan: Based on the assessment, I create a personalised learning plan that outlines the topics to cover and the order in which to address them. I consider the student's learning style, strengths, and areas needing improvement.

3) Clear Explanation: Presenting concepts in a clear, concise, and easily understandable manner whilst using real-life examples and analogies to illustrate complex ideas.

4)Interactive Learning: I encourage active participation and engagement from all students. Asking questions to check for understanding and encourage critical thinking is the best way to improve.

5) Practice and Application: I will provide practice exercises, problems, or activities that reinforce the concepts being taught. I will then gradually increase the complexity of exercises as the student's understanding improves.

Personal Description:
I have a first class Honours degree in History and a Ph.D and I taught History and Politics in both a sixth form college and a local grammar school for many years. I am patient, friendly and approachable and I also have three children of my own who have been through the GCSE/A level process as well as helping many private tutees for over 15 years and so have a wide experience of the problems that students can experience during their education. I really enjoy teaching and like being able to offer my students one-to-one attention during tuition. I offer mainly online tuition nowadays but am happy to either offer tuition in your home (up to a certain distance from my home) or to have your son or daughter come to my home for tuition.

Teaching Experience:
I am now retired but I taught for 27 years at secondary and further education level with a focus on 16 years and upwards. My specialist subjects were History and Politics which I studied at degree and postgraduate level. I have a great deal of experience of helping students prepare for the requirements of these examinations and of assisting them in securing excellent grades so that they can fulfil their potential.

Tutoring Approach:
I believe in flexibility. Different students have different needs which often change during a period of tuition and I believe in full consultation with the students and their parents. Generally, however, I find it most helpful to go over past questions with students to help them improve their examination technique. I have a proven track record in building up students' self-confidence, helping them cope with the demands of the examinations and helping them to make the most of their abilities.

Hi, my name is Aneesa and I am a Dental Surgery student at the University of Leeds, with over 3 years of professional tutoring experience. I have achieved 3A*s in A levels Chemistry, Biology and Maths and all 9s at GCSE.
I have experience tutoring all exam boards and all levels, with fantastic results achieved by my students, who often jump by over 2 grades.
I focus on closing gaps in learning and building key exam technique to help you achieve the grades you deserve. In my sessions, I tailor my tutoring to align closely with the specification and markschemes, with plenty of exam practise.

My tutoring style is closely aligned with current teaching philosophies, with a large focus on the specification content and exam practise.
I offer a huge range of Exam questions after content is covered, and I make sure any gaps are identified and markschemes and "exam ready" preparation is discussed.

I usually conduct my sessions via Zoom using an online interactive whiteboard, which is available for students to view outside of sessions as well.
My approach to tutoring is tailored to my students needs- I won't move on until the topic is understood, and constantly revise topics to ensure content is retained.
