Personal Description:
I studied Classics at King's College, Cambridge, graduating in 2009. I then trained as a teacher at Queens' College, Cambridge, graduating with a PGCE in 2010. I have been a private tutor since 2009, and have now clocked up thousands of hours' tutoring experience in Latin and Ancient Greek. I tutor both languages to degree-level standard in London, Cambridge and online. I love Classics, and my main aim is to make my lessons fun and inspirational.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring Latin and Ancient Greek intensively for the past 7 years, with thousands of hours' teaching experience to date. I have taught towards all major public exams in both languages, such as Common Entrance, GCSE, AS, A2, SAT, Pre-U and even BA (i.e. University exams). I am familiar with the entrance processes for a number of independent and grammar schools, and have had a lot of experience teaching towards scholarship papers. I have tutored many students applying to Cambridge and Oxford, and can provide in-depth advice and support with choosing the right course and college, as well as getting to the necessary level for the language tests. I have also taught the languages to those who have decided to learn them purely for fun! In addition to my face-to-face teaching, I have taught extensively online (about 50% of my teaching is conducted on Skype), and have built up an array of handy techniques to get the most from the online format. I was Head of Latin at a school in Bury St Edmunds for two years (September 2011 to July 2013). Since October 2010, I have been supervising Cambridge undergraduates in Latin and Ancient Greek (colleges so far have included Pembroke, Downing, Homerton, Queens', King's, Murray Edwards, Newnham, Caius, Peterhouse, St John's, Emmanuel and Trinity). I also own and run a private tuition agency, Titanium Tutors, which I set up in 2011, managing a team of 8 staff members and over 1000 inspirational tutors.

Tutoring Approach:

My teaching style is structured and thorough. I start every lesson with a five minute recap of the key content of the previous session, checking how much the tutee remembers. A typical lesson will then consist of a translation, in which I ask the tutee to note down each unknown word as it is encountered and to devise a memory trick which will help them to recall the word in a five minute test at the end of the lesson. Together with the tutee, I will then pick a grammar point which stood out in the translation exercise as requiring the most immediate attention. We will spend five to ten minutes working on that, with the tutee's understanding tested with some reinforcement exercises. At the end of the lesson we will recap all the new vocabulary and grammar which was covered, and I will typically set a manageable 20 - 30 minute homework for the next session based on what was covered in the lesson. Every lesson is of course different, and tailored to the tutee's requirements, but I find this approach works in the vast majority of cases. I consider grammar to be crucially important, but treat it as a means to an end and always emphasise the ways in which it can be usefully applied to translation rather than learned in isolation. I believe that any tutee can excel in Latin and Greek with a little guidance and a decent amount of independent work. Above all, I strive to make my lessons fun and enjoyable. I love my subject and want all of my tutees to love it too.

Personal Description:
I am an experienced teacher of both classics and modern languages, and have taught in a variety of secondary schools. I have stopped classroom teaching now because of the demands of a young family but I am keen to carry on teaching in a different capacity. I am passionate about languages, words and communication and love to share this with others. I have lived abroad for prolonged periods in France and Italy, and travel to see friends there whenever possible.

Teaching Experience:

Since completing my PGCE in 1992 I have taught Latin, Greek, French and Italian, from beginners to A level and Oxbridge, in secondary schools, both private and state. More recently I have been giving private lessons to both adults and teenagers.
***PLEASE NOTE THAT I TEACH ANCIENT GREEK, NOT MODERN! The UK tutors website does not give Ancient Greek as an option in the drop down list. I am not able to teach modern Greek.

Tutoring Approach:

Successful language teaching should combine a fun approach using oral practice including song lyrics and games with a more structured approach to grammar; this gives the student confidence that they really understand the language used. The advantage of private lessons is that I can focus on what the individual learner wants, which might be lots of oral practice to become more proficient at speaking, or to pass a specific exam. I do like to set homework from week to week as this is an important part of progress; but it is not compulsory!

Personal Description:
I have completed a PhD in Latin Literature from St Andrews University, although I am now based near Reading. I hold a Bachelor degree in Classics (Class 2:1) from Bristol University, a PGCE in Classics from Cambridge University, and an MLitt (with distinction) in Classics from St Andrews. I am currently self-employed and involved in tutoring, freelance writing and editing, and exam moderating. I am married and live in Winnersh near Wokingham, Berkshire.

Teaching Experience:

I have sixteeen years of teaching experience at Secondary Level, five years as Head of Department. I have substantial experience of language and literature teaching, from a wide range of Classical authors, at GCSE and A level, and have also taught university undergraduates. I have often tutored individuals outside of the classroom and am used to catering to the needs of students at various stages of their learning, from complete beginners to potential Oxbridge candidates. I also have experience in teaching French (up to GCSE level), English Literature (up to A-Level) and History (up to GCSE level).

Tutoring Approach:

My style is relaxed and I always aim to make learning enjoyable while also promoting intellectual rigour. I certainly encourage active participation and believe in allowing all tutees to comment constructively on their own progress or the relative value of different activities undertaken in tutorials.

Personal Description:
I am a native Greek speaker, born and bred in Athens. I am also fluent in English and have lived in England for 23 years.

I am keeping in close touch with Greece and the Greek language, which allows me to maintain my fluency, accent and knowledge of the country and the culture.

Teaching Experience:

I am an English teacher by profession and taught Greek students in language schools in Athens for fifteen years.

My students attained excellent examination results throughout my career from junior to advanced levels.

I also held private tuition throughout this period.

Since coming to England, I have taught Greek privately to English speakers who were interested in acquiring knowledge of the Greek language for various purposes such as holidays, purchasing property in Greece (holiday homes and permanent residence) and people who wanted to enter themselves into the Greek GCSE exams.

Tutoring Approach:

First of all, I am a sensitive listener.

I am patient with excellent skills in conveying my knowledge to my students. Focusing on helping students to feel confident with the various aspects of the language without judging them.

Finally, I firmly believe that practice makes perfect, which is also my most significant approach to teaching.

I believe it is important that lessons are interactive and fun. The lessons are customised to the student according to their personal needs, following an initial friendly telephone discussion.

Currently I have the opportunity and the pleasure to work in the Greek School of Glasgow for four years now, teaching Greek as a foreign language to children of all ages and to adult students of all ages!

Tutoring Approach:

As teaching is an amazing, interactive process, the tutoring approach depends on the needs of each one of my students. Normally it includes books, apps. handouts, cd's, songs, role plays and interaction activities, online sessions.

Personal Description:
My name is Evangelia. Ι am a Greek native speaker and I hold a bachelor's degree in Greek Language and Literature (University of Crete, Greece) and a masters in Language Studies (Lancaster, UK). I have been working as a tutor of the Greek language for about 15 years and have been teaching students of all ages.

I have been teaching Greek as a Foreign or Second Language since I moved to UK (6 years ago). I am currently teaching Greek to children and adults.

I have been teaching adults at the International House of London, at Aspire Sussex Adult Education Centre, and at the Alexandria Institute.

I am currently the Headteacher at a school in Brighton, who teaches the Greek Language and Culture to children and adults.

I am also the owner of the private tuition centre. I deliver one to one lessons and group lessons face to face and online, which help the students to develop communicative skills, reading and writing.

I am also the founder of a page, which brings together thousands of students and friends of the Greek language from all over the world.

Through my experience, I have developed my teaching techniques and I am able to adapt them to suit all students' needs.

Teaching Experience:

I have worked in various settings and managed to develop schemes of work and lesson plans in line with curriculum objectives.

- Teaching children and adults Greek as a foreign or second language (one-to-one, group lessons, online lessons)
- Teaching Ancient Greek, Modern Greek and Greek Mythology in Aspire Sussex Adult Education Centre
- Teaching Greek language and Culture at the Brighton Greek School
- Teaching university students in groups and in private lessons (Ancient Greek language and literature, Latin, Modern Greek Language and literature, History, Philosophy, Ancient Drama, English)
-Online teaching of the Greek language and culture

Tutoring Approach:

My basic approaches to teaching are the following:

- communicative language teaching
- natural way
- direct approach
- reading approach
- grammar translation approach
- creative and interactive teaching methods (art and visual learning techniques).

My courses also offer:
• Well-organized and rich material (texts for reading, listening and speaking, notes for grammar, syntax and vocabulary)
• Orientation to the individual needs of each student
• Team spirit, joyful and interactive atmosphere

There are classes for all levels, for adults and children, group and individual lessons.I am always open to my pupils' suggestions and I try to organise the learning session according to their own needs and level. I use as much material as I can, in order to make the lesson enjoyable and interesting. I tend to emphasise on details, which can be helpful for people who seriously want to get involved with Greek. I try to speak Greek as much as possible, during the classes, because I believe it is the most effective way for someone to learn Greek easily and fast, even if they don't speak a single word before the classes. In the end, I believe in the interaction between tutor and student. Learning is a dynamic and experiential procedure for both of them.

Perfect exam grade record - in my mixture of reformed and unreformed GCSEs I achieved 5 9s, 6 A*s and and A^(A**) in Further Maths. A* in EPQ. Centre assessed 3 A*s in Maths, Further Maths and Economics A Levels (Calculated grades were 2 A* and A in Further Maths). I am studying Economics at Durham University from September 2021.

Teaching Experience:

100% 9-7 GCSE Record for Tutees

Tutoring 12 students in wide-ranging topic and subject areas.

I have tutored GCSE Latin, GCSE Greek, and year 9 Maths.

Feedback from Faye and Iona Green (Grade 7 in Latin GCSE) (February 2020):

'My daughter has been having 1 to 1 sessions on a weekly basis since summer 2019, she wanted to do GCSE Latin in 1 year.

We cannot speak highly enough of William, he has taught her everything she needs to know in a way that is easy to understand, full of enthusiasm and always willing to help outside of the taught lesson. He sets homework when needed and marks this.

My daughter is feeling confident about the forthcoming exams because of the excellent tuition that has been provided.

I would not think twice about using William again for tuition in the future and would highly recommend him to anyone else.

Thank you William for all you have done.'

Feedback from Katie Lester (Passed GCSE Maths Equivalency Test for PGCE) (September 2020):
'Just wanted to let you know I passed the test! Thank you so much for all of your help, you are a fantastic tutor!'

Feedback from Magdalena and Thomas Kurek (November 2020):
'Hi William. I had a parents evening recently and Tom's teacher said he is doing very well in math. Tom told me he feels more confident at school too. Thank you for your work with him.'

Feedback from Vivian and Cassidy Madziyire (February 2021):
'Your input so far has made a huge difference.'

Tutoring Approach:

Friendly, supportive, motivating, specification based work and focus on improvement through guiding through past papers.

Personal Description:
Hi all, my name is Jack and I am currently a finalist undergraduate at Oriel College, University of Oxford studying for a BA in Literae Humaniores (Oxford's name for Classics) hoping to help people stay on top of their education during a time in which education has been incredibly unstable for many.
I have 3 A stars in my A levels in History, English Literature and History, a mark of 100% in my Extended Qualification Project and 12 a stars in my GCSEs
I have an offer for postgraduate study at Newcastle University starting in September 2023.

Teaching Experience:

Having tutored for four years, I specialise in teaching students of all ages and abilities in Latin, Ancient Greek and wider Classical studies. I have also extensive experience in tutoring History and English to a GCSE standard. Beyond pure academics, I am a successful Oxbridge application tutor, specialising in personal statements and interview preparations for most humanities degrees.

I have tutored all of the UK examination boards (WJEC, AQA, OCR and Pearson), as well as Cambridge Pre-Us. I also am experienced in both GCSE and iGCSEs.

I also have a tailored adult learning programme which is flexible to both students ability but also the part of the Classical World in which they are most interested.

Tutoring Approach:

With my years of tutoring experience, combined with the skills I have developed at Oxford, I am confident in helping my students acquire an in depth understanding of their subjects. I use a range of interactive approaches to tutoring, providing personalised guidance to my students to allow them to reach their full potential. Through a combination of wider language work and a focus on examined content, I believe any student is able to access classical languages. With good, personalised tutoring, I believe these so called "dead" languages can be brought back to life, inspiring students to great success no matter their aims.

With adult learners in mind, my approach tuition is to get to grips with some original texts as soon as possible, since this is why we learn Latin and Greek! Language is the key to unlocking the ancient world and too often classical language teaching misses this, deep in its lexicons and grammar primers. I aim to correct that, by teaching grammar and language skills alongside getting to grips with some of the biggest names of the classical world.

The material I share with my students is accumulated through all the years of my teaching work and there is a variety of types of exercises I offer to them. I also use a lot of interactive online material like live worksheets, language games such as Wordwall etc. and different kind of resources; newspapers articles, songs, poems, movie dialogues, inscriptions, texts published on social media ,recorded day-to-day conversations between native speakers etc. This helps them not only reinforce their academic knowledge (grammar and syntax) but it also broadens their experience on the cultural and contextual aspects of the language.

Γειά σου, привет, hello!

I am Alexandra, a native and qualified Greek and Russian teacher and interpreter. I hold an MA in Russian from the University of Glasgow with distinction in Spoken Russian and a BA in Ancient & Modern Greek from Democritus University of Greece. Additionally, I have a Certificate in Public Service Interpreting from Glasgow Clyde College. With over 10 years of teaching experience, I specialise in helping students of all levels excel in both Greek and Russian.

Teaching Experience:

For the past decade, I have had the pleasure of combining my work as a professional interpreter with my passion for teaching Greek and Russian as foreign languages. This journey has been incredibly fulfilling. I've taught students of all ages and backgrounds, from young learners to adults, and have successfully helped many pass important language certifications such as the GCSE, TORFL, and the Certification of Attainment in Greek.

What excites me the most is seeing my students' confidence grow as they develop the ability to communicate in a new language. Each lesson is a step towards unlocking a new world of opportunities - whether it's for travel, work, or academic success. My students don't just learn a language; they learn to think in that language and immerse themselves in its culture. I offer tailored lesson plans that balance grammar, conversation, and real-world application, making sure that every student progresses at their own pace while staying motivated.

Tutoring Approach:

Learning a language should be an exciting and dynamic experience! I believe that language learning is more than memorising vocabulary and grammar rules - it's about connecting with new cultures, traditions, and ways of thinking. My approach is student-centered and highly interactive, with a focus on real-world communication. In our lessons, you'll not only learn the language but also how to use it in authentic situations.

I design my lessons to be fun, engaging, and practical. Whether you're preparing for an exam, brushing up for a trip, or learning for personal growth, my teaching methods will be customised to your needs. We'll use a variety of resources like multimedia, games, role-playing, and even cultural discussions to keep the learning process enjoyable and effective.

Moreover, I create a supportive environment where mistakes are seen as learning opportunities, helping you build confidence with every step. By focusing on active participation and constant practice, I ensure that learning Greek or Russian with me is not only effective but also exciting and rewarding.

Personal Description:
Γεια σας! My name is Alkisti and I was born and raised in Athens, so Greek is my native language. I was an excellent student during my education in Greece and in high school I followed theoretical studies, focusing on the study of ancient and modern Greek. I started learning English when I was 7 years old and have lived across the UK in the past, while currently, I live in Scotland. This has made me fluent in English and I can confidently say that I have a great understanding of both Greek and English.

Teaching Experience:

In the past, I have taught English as a foreign language to young and adult learners in Greece. I have worked with students of all ages and levels and have successfully aided them in advancing in their studies of the English language.
I have been teaching Modern Greek since 2018. Some of my students wanted to learn Greek for their work, while others were just interested in the language. I have received very positive feedback from all of my students so far.

Tutoring Approach:

When it comes to teaching, I believe that the most important thing is to take into account the wishes and needs of the student. Everyone has a different approach to learning and I try to respect that and follow teaching techniques that are interesting and educational for my students. During the lesson, I communicate in the target language as much as possible, in order to familiarize the student with the phenomena of each language and resort to the student's native language only for explaining things that the student might have difficulty with. For each lesson, I try to create new activities, designed specifically for the level and needs of each student, in order to target the aspects of the language that the student needs to practice on.
