TIPS AND TRICKS: I like to build routine into tuition sessions, so that the student knows what to expect in each session, which helps boost their confidence, and so that grammar which can seem strange and unfamiliar at first becomes second nature. I've got plenty of tips and tricks to help with the most difficult parts of grammar and syntax. It's useful to break things down into smaller chunks - for example, the large set texts can be daunting, but they become manageable when taken piece by piece.

I am a Classicist with degrees from Cambridge (BA) and Durham (MA, PhD) universities and have been tutoring for over 10 years. Tutoring Approach:
My approach to tuition will of course largely be dependent upon the needs and ability of the respective tutee. For GCSE or A-level students, however, I believe that it would always be best to begin each lesson with a quick test on a point of grammar and vocabulary, and a literary stylistic feature (e.g. identifying a chiasmus etc.), since these formal aspects essentially underlie the series of unseen exams from GCSE - A-level. After this test, each lesson should focus on a text, ideally alternating each lesson with a text that is prescribed as one of the set texts for the respective exams with an unseen passage. This approach tends to produce the best results since the unseen passages give a true indication of the student's strengths and weaknesses and help the tutor to understand more easily what aspects need to be prioritised.

During my collaboration with the Greek School of Glasgow, I was appointed as the official coordinator of the school's language exams such as the Edexcel Pearson Qualification in Modern Greek (GCSE, GCE AS, GCE A level) and the exams for the Certificate of Attainment in Greek. My responsibilities included ensuring all the students' registration and application processes and communication with the official bodies of the exams. In addition, I was appointed as an official examiner for speaking and listening sections of the Certificate of Attainment in Greek, the official exams of the Greek Ministry of Education.

With careful guidance, high commitment, compassion, and encouragement during lessons, my students demonstrate remarkable progress in learning Greek. During the exams, most of my students perform better than their predicted and achieve outstanding results.

Tutoring Approach:
I tailor my tuition to the individual according to their needs, demands and objectives, encouraging them to create critical thinking towards learning. Using communicative language teaching techniques and focusing on a positive learning environment I set high goals respecting the objectives of the lesson and the abilities and needs of the student.

With a variety of learning strategies, I adapt my teaching approach to the learner's personality and needs. In order to support students, I provide their progress log and detailed feedback on their improvements and weaknesses with clear strategies of progress. I use a wide variety of teaching materials ranging from course books to stories, newspaper articles, videos, and songs. I methodologically provide resources for lessons through simplify and well-organised lesson plans in line with the objectives of the learners and/or the exams' curriculum.

My aim as a tutor is to create with my students a deep understanding of the language and confidence in communicating. My teaching is based on the idea that learning happens in a positive and mutually respectful environment, with passion and love on teaching and learning the Greek Language.

Γεια σας, my name is Sofia and I am a native Greek. I currently live in Leicester. I hold a PhD in Museum Studies and Education at the University of Leicester. I am also certified for the teaching foreign/second language by Open University, UK. I have been working as Greek tutor since 2018. I love to teach people from different backgrounds, ages and cultures. I have a passion for teaching, but learning too. Ι am also speaking Spanish and am an art and history lover.

I believe that the best way to learn a language is to SPEAK the language. Hence, our lessons will mostly be based on conversations through which you will practise vocabulary and get a better understanding of Greek grammar rules. I don't want to be the classic teacher; I consider myself a facilitator, and I can tell you that no language is difficult - what you need is the right method.

Teaching Experience:
I have 8 years of experience teaching students Greek as a second and foreign language in the UK as school, university and private tutor. I teach adults and children, and my aim is to make my lessons enjoyable, interactive and productive. I have acquired a great deal of experience in teaching; for adults, I have experience teaching at an A1 Level (Beginners) to C1, C2 (Advanced) and for children, primary school to GCSE. I currently preparing student for the Greek GCSE and teach Modern Greek at the university and in private lessons online, having students at different ages and from all over the world.

I understand that every person is different, therefore, I organize and structure my lessons based on students' needs, interest, age and level, respecting their rhythm to learn and offering relaxing, comfortable and engaging environment to practice the language. I like to start my lessons by encouraging student to talk about what they have done in the last few days, or during the weekend. We will also review the vocabulary or grammar learnt in the previous lesson. I always create exercises that are useful for students to practice different skills. For example, I will share videos for listening and understanding or we would start a conversation after reading a text. I will also introduce a topic in each lesson, so my students can learn new vocabulary and grammar through different activities. Such activities could be reading, listening, role-playing and other visual games. The materials that I use, are made by myself individualised to the needs of each student along with book resources. I am a Masters student at Swansea university. I did my undergraduate in Classics achieving a 2:1, I also won the Alfred Moorhouse award for most proficient at Latin and Ancient Greek in the year. In my spare time I love to exercise and play video games and spend time outdoors!

I have tutored online before with a student from Hong Kong in Ancient Greek. Also I taught kids in Tanzania about their rights and sanitation for 10 weeks.

Γεια σας! My name is Alkisti and I was born and raised in Athens, so Greek is my native language. I was an excellent student during my education in Greece and in high school I followed theoretical studies, focusing on the study of ancient and modern Greek. I started learning English when I was 7 years old and have lived across the UK in the past, while currently, I live in Scotland. This has made me fluent in English and I can confidently say that I have a great understanding of both Greek and English.

Teaching Experience:
In the past, I have taught English as a foreign language to young and adult learners in Greece. I have worked with students of all ages and levels and have successfully aided them in advancing in their studies of the English language.
I have been teaching Modern Greek since 2018. Some of my students wanted to learn Greek for their work, while others were just interested in the language. I have received very positive feedback from all of my students so far.

When it comes to teaching, I believe that the most important thing is to take into account the wishes and needs of the student. Everyone has a different approach to learning and I try to respect that and follow teaching techniques that are interesting and educational for my students. During the lesson, I communicate in the target language as much as possible, in order to familiarize the student with the phenomena of each language and resort to the student's native language only for explaining things that the student might have difficulty with. For each lesson, I try to create new activities, designed specifically for the level and needs of each student, in order to target the aspects of the language that the student needs to practice on.
