My teaching approach to tutoring varies from objective to objective. Languages should always be taught in a full immersion style, especially when it is targeting groups of people who are doing it for either vocational or personal reasons.
Tutoring of subjects such as languages with an objective such as GCSE or Highers or indeed University exams must take into account the syllabus that students must complete in order to reach their target: i.e. pass exams and, at the same time, learn in an effective though 'unforgettable' way. Personal Description:
My name is Madu and I am a full-time home and online private tutor (1-1 and group session).
I have a decade (12+ years) of teaching experience as a private tutor.
I graduated in 2019 with a MSc (Master of Science) in Mechanical Engineering from Sorbonne University (3rd best University worldwide for Mathematics by the Shanghai 2022 Rankings).

I specialise in teaching Mathematics up to A-Level and Physics, Biology, Chemistry up to GCSE & IGCSE.
I am well versed with all major exam boards, including Edexcel, OCR, AQA etc.
I am French therefore I can teach in both English and French.

I teach around the Whyteleafe area (Whyteleafe, Warlingham, Woldingham, Kenley, Coulsdon, Caterham, etc).

Teaching Experience:
I have a decade (12+ years) of teaching experience as a private tutor. I started providing online tutoring services in 2020 to ensure classes run during the pandemic.

Since 2020, I have become a full-time private tutor providing Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology tutoring.

I mainly focused on students from primary school to A-level, but have taught up to Bachelor Degree level for University students (BSc).

Tutoring Approach:
My students would describe my teaching style as calm and methodical.
Each student faces different difficulties therefore improvement begins by identifying those key issues in the first few sessions.

From then, we can work through these core areas and build confidence to secure specific knowledge and build familiarity with common methods and techniques. These new found skillsets and knowledge enables the student to succeed in their grades by practicing exam questions, with tailor-made weekly assignments, thus reducing anxiety over the exam period.

I believe in keeping parents fully involved in their children's progress therefore parents will receive weekly feedback.

Personal Description:
I studied French and Japanese as part of my degree in Applied Language and Translation Studies at Dublin City University and Kyoto University of Foreign Studies. As part of my degree, I also studied linguistics, and how to learn languages most effectively, given how the brain retains language. I have also taken the Irish Leaving Cert Japanese exam (A-Level equivalent) and Japanese Language Proficiency tests, so I have plenty of resources geared towards exams if that is your goal. If you are a more casual learner I am happy to make the lessons more fun and conversational, based on your preferences :)

Teaching Experience:
This year, I have taught my younger brother a 2 year higher level Japanese syllabus in 6 months for his Leaving Certificate exams, as he only found out in January there was a foreign language requirement for the course he wants to take in university. This was achieved through clever resources and study plan. With only 6 months tuition (one quarter of the usual 2 year syllabus time), my brother passed higher level Japanese with a grade equalling between 50-60%.

Other language teaching experience:
While in Japan I taught Japanese students English as a Foreign Language, from ages 4 to 20; in Ireland I gave casual English lessons to a Lithuanian woman who already had conversational English, but wanted to better understand certain English grammatical points; I also have a TEFL 160 course to teach English as a Foreign Language.

Other teaching experience:
I teach beginners piano every week from home.

Tutoring Approach:
Using the concepts learned in my Linguistics degree for language learning (L+1, Optimised Intervals for Repetition and Content Exposure for Memorisation Incentive), we will put a study plan in place with clever resources to ensure language learning is both fun and effective! We want our lessons to be so effective that we spend less time studying, and more time learning :)
