I am an experienced teacher of both classics and modern languages, and have taught in a variety of secondary schools. I have stopped classroom teaching now because of the demands of a young family but I am keen to carry on teaching in a different capacity. I am passionate about languages, words and communication and love to share this with others. I have lived abroad for prolonged periods in France and Italy, and travel to see friends there whenever possible.

Tutoring Approach:
Successful language teaching should combine a fun approach using oral practice including song lyrics and games with a more structured approach to grammar; this gives the student confidence that they really understand the language used. The advantage of private lessons is that I can focus on what the individual learner wants, which might be lots of oral practice to become more proficient at speaking, or to pass a specific exam. I do like to set homework from week to week as this is an important part of progress; but it is not compulsory!

My teaching approach to tutoring varies from objective to objective. Languages should always be taught in a full immersion style, especially when it is targeting groups of people who are doing it for either vocational or personal reasons.
Tutoring of subjects such as languages with an objective such as GCSE or Highers or indeed University exams must take into account the syllabus that students must complete in order to reach their target: i.e. pass exams and, at the same time, learn in an effective though 'unforgettable' way. The majority of classes must be delivered in the target language, however in order to meet timing of syllabus coverage and exams some of the concept must be strengthened in the student's language.
In an ideal world, where no exams or timed targets exist, then tutoring of a language should happen 100% in the target language.

I first started learning French at the age of 12 and throughout my school years, I acquired DELF A2, B1, and B2 diplomas. Moreover, I used to spend summers in language schools in Nice where I was exposed to intense French language courses. I also spent a year living and working in Paris from 2017 to 2018 as part of the French Studies programme at Oxford Brooked University.

These experiences have provided me with relevant and practical skills not only when it comes to grammar, reading, and writing comprehension but also with implementing that knowledge in conversational situations.

I am patient, calm, hard-working, and friendly. Therefore, I would like to share my knowledge with students of different ages and help them learn French in a fun and proactive way.

Teaching Experience:
I have experience in helping children aged between 11 and 14 years old with their French homework. Moreover, I worked with a 6 year old who showed interest in learning French.

Tutoring Approach:
Each session will be tailored to the objectives of individual students depending on their French knowledge level and learning styles.
My aim is to organise proactive classes with various grammar, reading, writing, listening, and speaking activities. Apart from grammar exercises which will be at the core of each session, I will introduce different books, newspaper articles, radio programmes songs etc. in order to bring French culture closer to each student.
