I am an Independent Educational Consultant specialising in Dyslexic Disorders. I have been a private tutor for many years and have tutored over 200 students. I have worked with many gifted children and those also who find education a challenge. I specialise in special needs especially dyslexia and Autism. After training as a teacher and the a medical doctor I find that my interest has remained in the education field and so am now to begin training as an Educational Psychologist with the Institute of Education, University of London.

Teaching Experience:

My general approach to teaching is to enhance individual skills by providing an individual programme for the student. This allows the student to learn independently instead of the learning associated within schools of one size fits all. My approach is open and relatively informal. I feel that tutoring works best when a relationship is established between myself and the student - they should feel free to ask questions, raise issues, and discuss any aspect of the work that interests them. It's very different to being taught in the classroom: in addition to individual attention, it also offers the opportunity to read and study texts not on the curriculum which can augment and strengthen the school syllabus. English is essentially a skills based subject. Although there is a lot of content to learn at both GCSE and A level, students benefit from being able to access and flexibly use the techniques needed to study and criticize. Reading, debating, and discussing a variety of texts enables the student to develop and apply these skills in lessons and exams.

I compose poetry in both English and Welsh and have performed at local poetry events. My poetry is in English schools in the North West, as part of the National Curriculum in Literacy.

My interests include: walking with family and our dogs; playing guitar; singing and volunteering at an Adult Day Care Facility.

Being a mother to a child with Autism and learning disabilities, my caring role; at times somewhat challenging and tiring, has afforded me a unique life experience of reward and enrichment.

Teaching Experience:
With over 20 years' experience in Education as a Literacy Intervention teacher, assessor and homeschool tutor in English and EFL, I can progress children and adults on their learning journey.

Within the Primary sector, I teach children from Year 1 through to Year 6 and am knowledgeable and skilled in all areas of the National Curriculum in Literacy:

Reading and Comprehension
Writing and handwriting
Spelling, punctuation and grammar
Phonics (Year 1 Screening Test)
SATs (Year 6 SATs practice)
Speech and Language (Makaton, PECs)

Within the EFL sector, I have homeschooled and taught students in Further Education, from overseas e.g. Hungary, India, Nigeria, Japan, Italy, Germany and Russia. I am currently teaching a child online in Shanghai, China.

Additionally, as a fluent Welsh speaker, I can teach Welsh up to Intermediate Level and am currently teaching adults and children online.

I can and do teach individuals with Special Efucational Needs (Autism, ASD, ADHD) and learning challenges such as dyslexia and Irlen's Syndrome.

Tutoring Approach:
My online tutorials offer a bespoke service, tailored to the learner's needs and interests. My lessons are always fun and engaging! I use a range of resources to link to the individual's learning style - we all access and process information in different ways and there is no such thing as 'best-fit'.

I can teach students individually or within groups of up to four.

Personal Description:
As a fully qualified, successful English teacher of twenty years, I have a plethora of experience to draw from to enable my pupils to reach their full potential. I am a dedicated, hard-working tutor who has tutored many pupils, all with great success.

I have a BA in English Literature from Lancaster University and an MA in Gothic Literature from Manchester Metropolitan University. I currently work at a well-respected school in the area and have done since I left university. I constantly try to upgrade my skillset through continued professional development and courses, so that my teaching and delivery continues to meet the needs of my learners. I have recently been accepted as a Fellow of The Chartered College of Teaching.

I'm an English GCSE and A level examiner and work with students on a multitude of exam boards all over the world. My average improvement is 2 grades for pupils that have 10 lessons or more, but some students have jumped up by as many as 5 grades. Get in touch for more info.

Teaching Experience:
I have been teaching English for over twenty years. I am willing to teach both Literature and Language, from KS2 up to and including A level. I also offer grammar school entrance examination coaching for all schools, other than my own. I can also help support non English natives with their oral and written skills. I have tutored a hundreds of pupils previously, all with excellent results. I have worked as an examiner at GCSE level and A level for the last few years, for a wide range of examination boards. This has helped my students considerably.

I estimate that I have delivered around 4000 hours of 1:1 tutorials to pupils since 2010 alongside working in the classroom. I have tutored pupils aged 8 to 20, covering KS2, KS2, KS4, KS5 and degree level. I conduct most of my lessons at home, with some via online platforms like Zoom, MS Teams or Skype. I currently teach AQA specification, but have also taught EDEXCEL/EDUQAS/WJEC/IGCSE at KS4, and currently teach AQA specification at KS5, but have previously TAUGHT CAMBRIDGE/OCR/WJEC. I have also supported pupils with UCAS applications, personal statements, and 11+ entrance exams. I have worked with home-schooled pupils, and those who may have had gaps in their education at times, both with great success.

Tutoring Approach:
I am nurturing, supportive tutor who strives to get the best out of my pupils by gently pushing them beyond their normal limits. I offer bespoke one to one tuition based on the individual needs of the pupil so that they can fulfil their maximum potential. I feel very passionately about teaching one to one and find great reward in my pupils' successes.
