My teaching approach to tutoring varies from objective to objective. Languages should always be taught in a full immersion style, especially when it is targeting groups of people who are doing it for either vocational or personal reasons.
Tutoring of subjects such as languages with an objective such as GCSE or Highers or indeed University exams must take into account the syllabus that students must complete in order to reach their target: i.e. pass exams and, at the same time, learn in an effective though 'unforgettable' way. The majority of classes must be delivered in the target language, however in order to meet timing of syllabus coverage and exams some of the concept must be strengthened in the student's language.
In an ideal world, where no exams or timed targets exist, then tutoring of a language should happen 100% in the target language.

My approach to proof-editing / English checking is to look primarily at the language. For some clients - university students in particular - it is not appropriate to offer an editorial service as this goes against the rules of university submissions. However, where I think a mistake has been made or something is not clearly expressed - and it is not a simple matter of correcting the language - then I will flag it up to the student so they can look at it again.

My main aim with my tutees is to build their confidence and enthusiasm for the subject. To this end I concentrate on teaching the skills they require to achieve the grades they want. My role is not to replace the teaching they get at school but to compliment it so a tutoring session could concentrate on planning an essay the student has been asked to write or going through specific areas the student needs help with. Currently I'm working in the construction industry as an engineer doing mainly acoustic testing and consultancy; this involves driving extensively within the south east and beyond.
I'm looking to teach adult learners mainly at the weekends and evenings at around intermediate level; I'd prefer in person

Teaching Experience:
Thave taught EFL at intermediate level in London for a year in groups. I have also taught schools and engineers in Japan for three years including teaching presentation, TOEIC and TOEFL. I've a TESOL (TRINITY) qualification. The Elementary schools required some knowledge of Japanese language and culture as I was often taking the class for the whole lesson. The engineering teaching required travelling within the Tokyo area to teach professional engineers from some of the top universities in Japan.
I'm able to speak some Spanish

I'm patient and kind; I work as an engineer in construction. I free weekends only.
