I am a qualified English teacher with a PhD in English Literature from Durham University, an MA degree in English Philology and Qualified Teacher Status (English). Language has always fascinated me and imparting my knowledge to others has been a pleasure and a reward. I want to share my passion with my students to help them realize that learning a language is not only useful but great fun too! :)

Teaching Experience:
I have recently completed a 12-month contract as an online English tutor at the Cracow University of Technology. From 2011 till 2020, I taught various modules in English Literature at Durham University (including Introduction to the Novel, Introduction to Drama, Introduction to Poetry, The English Language and Its History at Level 1, Critical Theory and Practice at Level 2 and Post-War Fiction and Poetry at Level 3). My English as a Foreign Language teaching experience covers working for a variety of language schools both in the UK and abroad. I have worked with Studio Cambridge, EAC and Anglophiles Academic. I try to make my lessons fun and my aim is to always tailor my method to suit the student's individual needs. In my language lessons I tend to focus on the student's oral communication skills. I start each lesson by revising earlier material (usually through a communicative activity or an interactive one) and then I move on to new material. There is always plenty of speaking and while I let the student work out the rules of the language themselves (I am in favour of the inductive method), I am always on hand to help and to explain.

I am a retired police officer who has retrained as an EFL teacher. My main interests are my rescue dog, swimming, music, reading, cinema, concerts and travel. As a person I am empathic, patient and kind. I am interested in current affairs both in the UK and worldwide.

I have been a fully qualified teacher for over 6 years and I absolutely love what I do! I have particular interest in working with children on a 1-1 basis as I love to personalise their learning and help them to see things in a different way then they may have been taught and not quite understand before.

I believe the greatest benefit of 1:1 tutoring (or tutoring small groups), is that it is so much easier to tailor the learning to the student's needs, aiding understanding and building on that towards mastery of a subject. Progress is often swift because as has been so often stated, 1:1 tuition for an hour is probably the equivalent of several days in the classroom! My initial approach is to assess the student's needs in the first couple of sessions, using the information gleaned to build a program of study that is particular to that student. Basil Gabbidon created one of the most popular reggae bands in 1975 in Birmingham, England. The song is in a rap, poetic style with some singing.
