I will always begin by discussing my tutee's individual requirements and areas of the syllabus they would like to focus on. Students may ask to recap concepts and theories that aren't fully understood, however in my experience most require help with exam technique, and how to translate their knowledge into a high grade answer. I therefore place a great emphasis on guiding students through the process of answering past paper questions, across all topic areas. In our sessions I will help with essay structure, illustrate how to use higher order analytical and evaluation skills, and crucially, how to apply an answer to information in a case study, or how to bring in real world examples.

Over the years I have taught an increasing proportion of students online, so that currently about 90% of my tutoring is done this way. I use Skype/Google Meet/Zoom and Google Docs, which students can also access. This makes the sessions as interactive as meeting face to face, and it also means I can tutor students from anywhere in the world (I have taught people in South Africa, China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Spain, France, Serbia, Russia, Montenegro and Bermuda). "Matt only got an E grade in his February A2 mock exam and the school predicted he would get a C grade at A2. With the significant assistance from Ian, Matt achieved an A* at A2. Matt was initially very apprehensive about being taught on Skype rather than in person. But Skype proved really beneficial. Hello, I am a UK qualified teacher and have had a very interesting career in the UK and overseas. I lived in Australia for 2 years where I gained an MBA. I worked in the Middle East for 5 years. For the past few years, I have been an on-line tutor for a Paris school, a Budapest school and many private A level, IB and undergraduate students.

I live in the countryside and enjoy walking my dog across the fields, watching Netflix and generally socialising with friends and family

I am trying to improve my French with Duo Lingo - an on-line resource learning platform. I am also going to learn some Arabic so that I can impress my son-in-law who is from Syria.

Teaching Experience:
My teaching experience has been gained in a wide range of educational establishments, in the UK and overseas. I taught in an international boarding school for many years and taught students for whom English was their second language. I taught business related subjects in the Middle East in the training department of a multi-national oil company. Prior to this I worked in schools and colleges in Wales and England.

More recently, I have been tutoring economics and business on-line, using a variety of platforms including Zoom and MS Teams

I am an Associate Examiner with Edexcel, AQA and Cambridge International

Tutoring Approach:
At our first meeting, I will assess your strengths and weaknesses so that I can draw up an individual learning plan for you. The first 15 minutes are free.

I find that most students are capable of learning the content of the GCSE or A level syllabus, can remember the main concepts, but struggle to write a coherent A grade essay. If this is your weakness, then I will focus on developing your essay writing skills and I have lots of resources which I use to do this.
I understand that some of the economics and business concepts can be quite complex and some of the diagrams challenging, so I will be very patient with you and will make sure you fully understand every topic in the syllabus. I will stretch and challenge you to make sure that you stay at the top of your game and I will use materials appropriate to your ability.

My main objective is to help students gain confidence and instil in them a 'can do' attitude. This is something that I believe I am good at. I get great job satisfaction when I see my students develop self-confidence and reach their full potential. Economics can be fun and I will always try to make your lesson as interesting, relevant and fun as possible. I look forward to meeting you.

Personal Description:
I am a graduate with a Master's in Finance and a Degree in Banking & Finance. Strong academic background - have experience in dealing with students of all academic strengths. Able to teach various curriculums. Teaching style tailored to each students requirements and ability.

Teaching Experience:
I have almost 8 years of teaching experience as a private tutor. I began with teaching younger students of 11+, however began to mostly teach GCSE students. I have in the past two years started teaching A-level students too. I have taught GCSE Maths, Economics, Chemistry and Statistics. A-level Mathematics and Economics. Have previously taught in person, recently moving to remote learning due to the pandemic.
