I specialise in preparing students for GCSE chemistry exams and A-level chemistry exams. Until January 2011, I was a Science Teacher at Plymstock School in Plymouth where I had been the Head of Chemistry for 10 years. Previously I had worked at Kelly College Independent School as a Chemistry Teacher and the Head of Lower School Science. Since January 2011, I have been self employed as both a Professional Tutor and also a Professional Drummer! I love both aspects of my self-employment and look forward to helping many more students achieve exam success.

Teaching Experience:

CHEMISTRY
I use revision notes and PowerPoints to aid understanding but try to focus the learning around past paper questions and answers as much as possible.
I have handwritten answers to AQA, OCR-A and OCR-Salters past papers which are scanned in to the computer for projection onto a smart board.
I offer individual tuition on a 1:1 basis and also small tutorials of between 2 to 3 students, who are in the same year group and following the same specification… often friends.

Ater getting my first degree, I then decided to do a masters Degree in Chemistry and passed. My tutoring style is quite unique. Being a school teacher myself, I now understand why it is so difficult for students to understand the subjects that I teach. Hello, I'm Alexander, I'm 23 and I'm from Essex. I'm currently pursuing my PhD in Organic Chemistry at University College London. I graduated from the Univesity of Leicester with a masters degree in Chemistry (With A Year Abroad) in July 2018. I love past papers! These for me were key when I was revising for my Highers, Advanced Highers, and even for the Medical School entrance exams such as the BMAT, UCAT, and TMS (Germany). I believe they offer key information on what exactly it is you need to know, and to what standard/ depth one must answer questions. At the beginning I like to get a feel for what level of knowledge students have, and together we set goals for what we wish to achieve (e.g. time remaining until the exam, what grade they wish to achieve, if there is any particular section they are struggling with, etc..). Preferably, I like to communicate with my students before the lesson, so we can decide what learning outcomes to focus on during our session, so we can both prepare beforehand.
