I believe in a structured hour of work where the pupil is thoroughly engaged throughout the session. I think that there is a lot of importance in learning 'discovery' which is where the pupil is not spoon-fed information, but rather encouraged to try and work out patterns in the language e.g. grammar. I started my career as a Chemical Engineer and completed my PhD in that subject.

At secondary school, I was a Peer Mentor for 2 GCSE students in Biology and Chemistry. Additionally, for 2 years every week, I volunteered to teach disabled children how to swim at my local pool. I have gained most of my practical teaching experience from my time in the NHS, where I worked as an information specialist. While I am happy to meet face to face, I find that online tutoring works equally well and has the advantage of being able to record sessions that can be used by the student when revising. The use of interactive whiteboards still provides a great learning experience, and whiteboards can also be saved for the student to use later.
