I am a qualified teacher having been awarded a PGCE from the University of Cambridge. I also have a First Class Bachelors degree. I previously taught at Queen's College Preparatory School, London and now teach online for Eton College. I am a member of the professional body for tutors.

I have four young children of my own and enjoy working with children and helping them to become interested in and succeed in school work. All of my children attend UK independent schools and I have extensive experience in this sector.

Recently retired. Until the advent of Covid I would always travel to the tutee. I was forced into online tutoring very reluctantly. Being happy with the technology meant the transition was much smoother than I anticipated.
I am now so happy with this method of tutoring I would even use it if the tutee was living next door.
For some years now I have been tutoring mainly A level to students all over England and Wales. This means I have become conversant with all relevant Exam boards. Although I have tutored EDEXCEL I would now restrict this to the first year. The second year is very specialised in parts and not to my liking. Over the years of studying for National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher exams, I have complied all the resources that were most used and praised by teachers as well as students preparing for their exams and use them readily to prepare my students.

Before tutoring a student, I identify what qualifications they have received previously in that particular subject as well as what exam they wish to prepare for. Then I highlight the contents of the course, provide the student with resources and give online lessons via Google Meet in which I share my screen so the student can see a Miro whiteboard that I use to write notes and explain/solve questions on. Throughout the lesson, the topics that we cover are revisited through homework questions that I set my students to ensure they have sufficient practice and that they can readily apply their knowledge.

Developing the ability to solve different types of questions challenging you from different angles on the same topics, is what is challenged repeatedly in SQA exams which require efficient skills in problem solving. I help equip the student with the knowledge, practice and expertise to deal with exam-type questions after we have covered the theory (notes/topics) of the subject.

I also take into consideration their learning style when teaching them (i.e. visual learner - drawing diagrams and images, auditory learner - asking verbal questions during lessons, kinaesthetic (doing) learner - making quizzes and tasks).
