Originally a ceramic designer working in the pottery industry I am based in Stoke on Trent. I worked for The Wedgwood group producing designs for companies, airlines and hotels such as The Waldorf, Langhams, Marks and Spencer and Concorde.
Having retired from designing and teaching I now love to paint, usually in large format and in acrylic. I also enjoy oil, watercolour and pastel chalks. My sketchbook follows me wherever I go.

I am an artist-teacher whose passion lies within nature and its use as a subject within art education. Exploring themes of organic matter, leaning towards natural history and science, I have a keen interest in the philosophy of Wabi-sabi and creating symmetrical imagery using objects that may be deemed imperfect, worthless or unattractive.

I studied Illustration at University and specialise in bookmaking, screen printing onto textiles and observational drawing.

Recently I have had an artist book on display at the Turner Contemporary in Margate, images displayed in CRATE, participated in projects with Dover Arts Development and had my work displayed alongside my students at the Sidney Cooper Gallery in Canterbury. I enjoy making work and encourage my students to relish in the activity of creating.

I am a professional Theatre Stage and Costume Designer (M.F.A. graduated in 2004), and I have worked in many theatre productions in UK and abroad, as a stage, set and costume designer as well as a puppet maker. I work as an Associate Lecturer on the BA Painting Programme at Camberwell College of Arts (University of the Arts London), as a mentor on the Turps Painting Programme and was invited to be a Visiting Artist at Goldsmiths for 2023, and again for 2024. I am also a Dissertation Supervisor for Final Year students at Camberwell on their BA Programme. My specialism is Art History, however I have extensive knowledge of a wide variety of subjects and my tutees have all immensely improved their grades (often by multiple grade bands) and have been very happy with their results.

I also teach writing for a wide variety of audiences. I have experience writing reviews of exhibitions for Mousse magazine and an in conversation series with key artistic figures, including Turner Prize winner Mark Leckey, Markus Lüpertz, Leidy Churchman and Chris Martin. In 2019 my writing won the a-n arts prize and I took part in a series of workshops facilitated by prominent writers and editors, such as the Editor of Frieze magazine.

I've published three humour books and continue to write for theatre companies and private events.
