Personal Description:
I have 7 years experience working as a Spanish teacher in secondary schools in London including Alleyn's, Lady Margaret School and Kingsdale, teaching years 7 to 13. My exam classes have a very good track record. This year, my year 11 class are predicted 58% grades 9 to 8 and 100% 9 to 6, and my A Level class 63% A*-A and 88% A*-B. I have worked with both Edexcel and AQA in this time, so I know what it takes to get the best grades, especially at GCSE. I am also very happy to work with younger children, helping them to feel more confident with mastering the basics in a language. If your child needs extra support or practice with any particular area, just let me know.

I have made several trips to South America, and have lived in Chile and Spain. I am also a fan of Spanish and Latin American films and literature, so if you would like to incorporate some more cultural aspects into lessons just let me know, as this can be very motivating.

My teaching experience is extensive, having taught at Kings on the Medical Course for a number of years, Birkbeck and SOAS as well as South Bank University. Currently I teach on the Masters Course and have supervised numerous dissertations to a high level. My expertise is in qualitative methods where I did one of the first phenomenological Doctorates looking at the lives of male substance users, whilst working with them therapeutically.

My approach to tutoring is drawn from Bruner, Vygotsky and Rogers, based upon scaffolding the student to build their confidence and expertise so they begin to develop their own expertise. Within an exam for example students require a deep knowledge of understanding of what is required and therefore need support to be able to do this. Essay writing requires a different set of skills, such as being able to research a topic and move to building an argument. For many students this requires considerable scaffolding at first.

I am a 45 year old successful tutor offering classes in Spanish language and culture, French and English as a foreign language (EFL). I hold full membership of the Chartered Institute of Linguists for both Spanish and French which is a mark of recognition for my advanced language skills and I also work in Secondary schools in South East Wales on a supply basis.

Teaching Experience:
I am very experienced in teaching having coached volleyball for the past 6 years. Working with children from ages 10 all the way up to members of the university team. I come to teaching from a commercial rather than academic background. I worked in music publishing and for an Indian furniture and design business for many years before qualifying as a mature student from the Institute of Education, UCL in 2013 with a PGCE (maths) at level seven since when I have been teaching GCSE maths to adults at various colleges around London including City of Islington College, South Thames College, Adult Learning Lewisham and Westminster Adult Education Services where I was nominated for Teacher of the Year.
As well as my PGCE I have A level mathematics and began a music degree at Goldsmiths thirty years ago but did not complete it. As part of my CPD I completed the GCSE Maths Enhancement Program at the IOE and Pearson's Preparing to Teach the new GCSE (9-1) Syllabus.

I have completed a PGCE in secondary school science in London and did two placements to get practical experience. I also have qualifications in environmental science (post grad), acoustics and mechanical engineering.
