I have over twenty years of Photography and Film making experience, working abroad to shoot several short films in Prague, Paris, Africa and China. I have a First-Class Honours BA in Theatre, Film and Television from the University of Bristol. Being at the earliest-established performance department in the UK meant I was able to draw on a wealth of academic and practical knowledge and facilities. I later completed an MA at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) and Birkbeck College, receiving a Distinction. I am very passionate about films, theatre, the media industry. I am currently in my second year of a BA Hons in Film Studies at Edge Hill University, living away from home during the week but always available on weekends. I am hardworking, dedicated to my studies and after my undergraduate degree I am hoping to continue my studies with a Masters degree.

I also love to learn languages, currently able to speak 4 fluently (English, Urdu, Punjabi, Hindi) and also learning Spanish in my free time.

I have a younger sister who is following my path into Film Studies, not knowing a thing before starting her A Level in it she is now predicted an A*. I have held short after school lessons for her and other family members in this particular field and the outcome has always been satisfying.

I have been tutoring for four years and I have a lot of experience supporting students in improving their Film Studies grades by 2-4 grades. I studied Film at university and I have an insatiable passion for Film and an unquenchable thirst for learning. Currently, I am an English language tutor, an assistant at an arts festival, developing a YouTube series and training to become a karate instructor. However, this view has intensified through my experience of being an English tutor; I am much more aware of the power behind being able to articulate or express one's thoughts accurately, be it in an exam or in life. I have over 25 years experience as a successful and motivational teacher. I was an A Level teacher in Lincolnshire for twenty years and before that, a lecturer in Higher Education (De Montfort, Leicester).

I have a great deal of experience both in and outside education, particularly in the media, and have worked for several years as an independent arts practitioner. I have a degree in Fine Art (Leeds) and a post-grad Diploma from St Martins, London, where I studied Film and Video.

Hi, my name's Alan and I'm a friendly, approachable and hardworking tutor, having now tutored full-time for three years (part-time for 24 years alongside my teaching career).

Teaching Experience:
I have taught since 2002 in a range of secondary schools, as well as primary provisions, GCSE evening and weekend schools and both online and face to face for individual tuition from Primary level (Year 2) to Adult learners. I have been Head of Department for English and Media and also responsible for whole-school Literacy, including working with students who required extra support in moving from KS2 to KS3. I have taught English Language and Literature at most levels, English as a foreign language, Media and Film Studies and Study Skills, amongst other things. I take a very technical, scientific approach to teaching English and Literacy - looking at each area of development in turn and working towards mastery. For GCSE, I offer an approach that is designed to meet the requirements of the mark scheme without too much stress: students find my approach easy to access and engaging, using both official and my own personal resources. Students receive the PowerPoint of notes at the end of each session for revision purposes and I often use low-stakes testing to revise and review key areas of learning. I'm a French student living in Edinburgh. I just graduated 2 licences, one in Film Studies and on in English literature. I also just finished 3 years of prep school. During those years, I was prepared to go into the highest French literature school. I specialised my studies into cinema during those 3 years. Therefore, I can teach everything related to art, literature and subjects that are close to it.

I'm really kind and like to know the people I'm teaching to. I like sports (Handball mostly), music (did 10 years of music school), reading and going to movies.

My approach to tutoring depends on the age of the student. For example, for my youngest students, I like to play games to make them learn.
I don't mind repeating myself and know how to explain things in different ways.
My approach is to make increase skills by yourself by unlocking or deblocking things you thought you didn't understand.
I also give advices on how to review your course and learn your lesson. I'm great at giving advises for essays as I had to wrote one every week during 6h, during my prep school.
For every language's subject, I favour speaking and listening to oral comprehension in order to increase your skills.
