Personal Description:

I am primary school teacher and mother who believes every child can achieve a great deal. I know how hard it can be for some children to reach their full potential in a full and busy classroom at school. I have started home tutoring to enable children develop their confidence so that they can feel good about their achievements. Most children have times when they need a little extra boost. I prefer to tutor in my home, where all my resources are at hand. I am willing to travel to your home, I charge an extra 5 per session for this. I can give advice to parents e.g. offering advice on how best to support your child's learning or what to expect when your child starts school, as well as one to one skills tutoring or small group work.

Teaching Experience:

I have been a class teacher in english primary schools for more than twenty years, and have also held the management post for literacy in three of those schools. I have taught many children who have needed different teaching from the majority of their peers and been a SENCo. I have received termly updated training and attend and lead in-service training for primary teachers. I have taught children across the primary age range, from Reception/Foundation stage to Year 6 within the last 6 years. My specialism is teaching reading and writing. I have also taught the maths curriculum throughout my career. I also some experience of adult education and would be willing to assist any more mature person wanting to increase their confidence with literacy.

Tutoring Approach:

I have sets of work to address specific tasks (e.g. Key stage 2 SATs), but prefer to tailor sessions to the specific needs and learning styles of the child. During the first session/s I will assess your child's strengths and in subsequent meetings, address the areas they particularly find challenging. Most sessions will be an hour but I offer 45 minute sessions if appropriate (this is often more effective with younger children). I am happy to assess any child and feedback to you my professional opinion on a one off basis. I can usually offer short blocks of tutoring (e.g. once a week for 6 weeks) or I can offer longer term support. I can offer high quality structured specialist literacy teaching to home educated children.
