Clemence - Islington tutor

Information About Clemence:

Personal Description:

I am a recent graduate of English Literature and French so I have just been through the education system and I know the formula for success at each level. I did very well at A-Levels (AAB) and GCSE's with five A*s.

I still love English literature and French and I feel I would communicate my enthusiasm well. I would try and get each student to love the subject and then their performance would rise accordingly. I appreciate the need to work consistently to achieve results and I would monitor student progress closely. That said, education is intellectual development and there needs to be a certain license in the progress, within the realms of achieving the next goal in the education system. I believe there can be a happy compromise between the two; working to set targets whilst allowing a love of learning to flourish.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught English as a foreign language in Tanzania at two schools. In one class of over thirty
pupils, the ages ranged from 5-9 years old. In the other secondary school, I taught 16-19 year olds.
The two classes required very different teaching techniques, and I had to adapt, whilst following the lesson plan and set targets, to communicate with the students effectively.

Tutoring Approach:

In order to maximize a student's potential, I would begin with a very detailed evaluation of their current status, what they need to achieve (in terms of catching up, or preparing for exams) and then build a comprehensive route over a sustained period of how we would get there. My focus would be very much on the student as an individual and I would try and create the optimum teaching method for each person. Ideally, I would like to meet with the student at least once a week to keep the information fresh.
The teaching would involve as much interactive learning tools as appropriate to the student's age and abilities. For a French GCSE student , for example, I would help them not only with the core material set out for the examination but also try and inspire an understanding and enjoyment for the language through books, films, and other media.
I want to challenge, excite and inspire students because I believe that academic work can be extremely enjoyable when you see your hard work paying off.
