Robert - Reading tutor
Information About Robert:
Personal Description:
I am a recent Oxford history graduate and am eager to give some short term help to students who might need a bit of a boost for their re-takes in January in either English or History. I can also help with Personal Statements, interviews for university and provide tutoring on general essay structure.
Furthermore I would also be happy to tutor younger students in either History, English or Latin.
Teaching Experience:
I have lots of informal experience, and am currently helping my younger brother with his A-Level retakes and university application.
I spent the summer looking after and tutoring 3 Libyan brothers (10,12 and 14) who were in England improving their English.
Tutoring Approach:
Try and get the pupil enthusiastic about their subject first, I think individual tutoring needs to be a much more two-way process than teaching so getting a lot of input from the student and talking with parents about what they want to achieve is, I feel, much more important than a rigid 'this is how to learn history' approach.
Having said that if exams need passing then there is no better way than breaking down the syllabus into its constituent parts and using targeting learning to improve each area. This in conjunction with learning what the mark-schemes (i.e. exam technique) are looking for is probably the best way of giving marks a short-term boost.
