Laura - Newmarket tutor
Information About Laura:
Personal Description:
Hello! I am a freelance scriptwriter, working mainly for television. I have written for EastEnders, Casualty and Radio 4. I am also currently writing a stage play for Young NOMADS at The Kings Theatre in Newmarket- a group I used to belong to. Prior to going self-employed I was a Script Editor and Story Editor on EastEnders and before this I worked at BBC Radio Drama and Laura Cecil Literary Agency (specialising in children's books). I have a real passion for reading, writing, performing- anything to do with the written or spoken word! I also strongly believe that learning should be fun and that everybody should get a fair chance- it is possible to achieve anything if you put your mind to it!
Teaching Experience:
I have taught Dramatic Writing to 1st Year BA students at Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge. I regularly facilitate Drama / Creative Writing workshops in both Primary and Secondary Schools. I am currently working with Year 8 and 9 boy students at Bushfield in Peterborough- Creative Writing Workshops inspired by Lord Of The Rings, as well as running a drama project at Red Balloon Learner Centre in Cambridge. I have also been given funding by the BBC to run a Creative Writing Project with vulnerable youngsters for the Action For Children Charity. As well as this, I also regularly read and edit fellow writers' and students' work.
Tutoring Approach:
My approach to tutoring is to be as positive and empowering as possible. So much of successful learning is to do with confidence. I aim to make my students feel as comfortable and secure as possible, to create a non-threatening and inviting learning environment. I believe that clarity is vital and so I aim to be as comprehensive as possible in my teaching and make all tasks feel accessible to students. I am open-minded and empathetic, as well as highly motivated and extremely organised.
