Joseph - Cambridge tutor

Information About Joseph:

Personal Description:

My main work experience is in publishing and translation. My special interests are in Russian history and modern European history. I am fluent in Russian and French and I have a Master's degree in Russian history from the School of Slavonic Studies. I also have an interest in the history of art and this year I translated a history of the surrealist movement from Russian to English. I have worked closely with Japanese academics, editing their English for publication in English language journals. I have also worked as an editor and translator for Robin Callan, the owner of a publishing company which publishes EFL textbooks (the "Callan Method").

Teaching Experience:

I taught English to my Polish friend Jaroslaw and gave him many lessons in English composition. As a result he was able to pass the Cambridge CAE exam.

Tutoring Approach:

Teaching is about enabling someone to think for himself. In history it is about helping someone to gather information and then to make sense of it. As a teacher it is important to concentrate on what is relevant to the exam. People learn most in a calm and serious atmosphere.
