Helene - Cricklewood tutor
Information About Helene:
Personal Description:
I am a native French speaker who has lived in the UK for the past 3 years and am fluent in speaking, reading and understanding English. I am a first class graduate in Education Studies & Early Years and currently working as a teaching assistant in a primary school in West Hampstead
Both my parents are teachers and I have enjoyed working in different French primary schools in a supportive role. My enthusiasm and patience has helped me communicate with different ages and work sucessfully in the schools.
I have previously been a nanny in the UK, prior to my studies, which helped develop not only my English speaking and understanding but also taught me how to be versitile while working with different people. I really enjoyed looking after the children and often enouraged French speaking through role play, stories and songs. I also held French conversations with the entire family and have become part of their family.
I am a positive, friendly, encouraging teacher who has a great sense of commitment and am able to use these attributes as well as my experience to create a sucessful and enjoyable learning environment.
Teaching Experience:
I have taught two children (aged 4 and 6 years old) French for about a year. They have enjoyed listening to French songs and stories and are building up a basic vocabulary ie colour names and animals. They also enjoy singing French songs.
I have also ran French clubs at a library and a primary school in Liverpool, teaching French to children aged from 4 to 9 years.
Tutoring Approach:
When teaching young children it is important to maintain and encourage their enthusiasm as well as building up their confidence. I have done this through role play (cafe, shopping etc) songs (Old macDonald) and stories. It is also important to make sure I understand what level they are at and where they are progressing to. I do this in an informal through general conversation and interaction.
When teaching teenagers and adults a slightly more formal approach is needed to maintain and encourage independence and confidence within the language as well as development. I have a better understanding of teenagers as I spent the entire summer 2008 working with them and feel that this has developed my confidence and ability to communicate sucessfully with them on their level while mainting a teacher pupil relationship.
