Natalie - Warrington tutor
Information About Natalie:
Personal Description:
29 years old. Female. Married (to a maths teacher of all people!)
I am considered to be kind, friendly and a good listener.
Hobbies and stuff...
I love the cinema, photography and the great outdoors.
I run a media production company from home.
I am currently trying to teach myself Welsh!
Teaching Experience:
A mixed bag of experience. PGCE in post-compulsory education but with lots of experience in schools too. I have tought children and young people across the north-west within the care system. I have teaching experience with specal needs including: Autistic Spectrum, ADD, ADHD and EBD. My qualification is a PGCE: Post Compulsory Education.
Tutoring Approach:
I have had good teachers and bad teachers. I try to be one of the good ones!
What to expect:
I visit the client in their own home or tutor from my home.
If I teach from home:
My home is quiet and fairly minimalistic (which helps young people on the autistic spectrum to concentrate).
Parents/guardians are welcome to stay with us during sessions if they wish. I live in a townhouse close to Warrington town centre. Lessons can be taken in the dining room on the groundfloor for wheelchair users (please advise me beforehand) or the middle floor in the office (computers provided) or lounge. The top floor is out of bounds to visitors. I have a very child friendly dog on the premises, but young people with allergies or those who are frightened of dogs may prefer to be taught in their home as a result.
The First Meeting
We will be talking about any difficulties in learning the subject in a formal educational setting and discuss any specific learning difficulties you may have. We can chat about strategies to help you learn more effectively. Please find out which SYLLABUS you are studying at school/college and bring this information with you.
General
To the best of my ability I try to make subjects interesting and RELEVANT to young people and re-engage them - media production has been a great way of doing this in the past but every student is different.
We will set daily/weekly/long term targets as appropriate to help students to succeed. There are clear boundaries for behaviour from the offset and mutual respect is important. I'm not a shouty teacher, I believe in the power of encouragement.
