Ben - Birmingham tutor

Information About Ben:

Personal Description:

I'm a friendly, relaxed and very approachable private tutor. I've just finished my studies at Warwick University and currently work as a doctor at Birmingham Heartlands Hospital.

I love teaching and plan to continue teaching throughout my career, hopefully one day in a University Medical School.

Previous students I have tutored have said that they enjoyed the sessions, found them very helpful and well planned. Most students I have tutored in the past achieved grades higher than they were expecting.

In addition to my medical qualification from University of Warwick, I have a 1st Class honors degree (BSc Natural Sciences - Chemistry and Biochemistry) from the University of Birmingham. I did my first year at the University of Adelaide in Australia and achieved numerous academic prizes (listed below). I have a lot of experience as a private tutor and in other teaching environments (See below).

Teaching Experience:

6 years private tutoring of Chemistry students (A-level, AS and IB, University of Adelaide 1st year Chemistry and Maths students), Maths (IB, A-level, GCSE, AS, Key Stage 2 primary and 1st year univsersity level).

14 months as a teaching assistant at the Old Hall School, Wellington, Shropshire. (Lessons for years 3-8 in Maths, Science, French, German, PE/swimming). Also helped to run the boarding house for years 3-8 with the resident matron at the time and this involved regularly helping the boarders with their homework.

2 years as a swimming instructor in Australia for 4 to 15 year olds.

Tutoring Approach:

In the first session, I would determine what goals you would be working towards (ie specific A-level/GCSE grades, passing entrance and or other exams) in addition to identifying what level you are currently at and planning how you wish future sessions to run.

I tend to run sessions quite flexibly (and can adapt for individual needs) in that we can cover whatever material you wish (ie areas you find problematic, current course work etc). We can also work together in a more structured format if you wish (ie systematically working through the syllabus or through work/exercises/exam-style questions I would prepare myself beforehand).

I would also provide you with my email address so you can email me with questions between sessions which I will try to answer as soon as possible.
