Katharine - Birmingham tutor
Information About Katharine:
Personal Description:
I graduated from De Montfort University in July 2008 with a BA Hons degree in English and Media Studies, with a 2:1. I have always wanted to be a teacher and I now am studying for my PGCE at Solihull College.
Teaching Experience:
I currently teach a resit GCSE English class at Solihull College for pupils aged 16-60, who may or may not have already attempted their GCSE, but for whatever reason need to redo it. I also work at Henley College, Coventry as a Literacy Lecturer for adults who require support with literacy skills.
Tutoring Approach:
I believe that the best way to help people to succeed is to give them the confidence to try. From my experience, the biggest set back that people have is not being comfortable to try to learn, and so I think that it is very important to create a strong relationship between tutor and student so that the student feels that they can ask for help when they need it. I am a recent graduate, and so although this means that I may not have as much teaching experience as other tutors, I do remember what it is like to be a student myself - this helps me to understand students' needs and to help them to succeed.
