Claire - Southampton tutor

Information About Claire:

Personal Description:

I am a 31 year old chemistry teacher with experience in sixth form colleges, large secondary schools and private educational institutions. I have also had experience in a scientific research environment. As well as loving my subject I like to travel and broaden my horizons and have taught abroad in Dubai and Italy.

Teaching Experience:

I am currently working in a major independent school teaching chemistry at AS, A2 and IGCSE level. Previously I have worked in a large secondary school and sixth form, a large sixth form college and an independent international school. I have been tutoring privately for nine years in a range of subjects including mathematics, science, chemistry A Level, biology A Level and even first year medicine (I have a background in biochemistry as well as chemistry). In addition to this I have marked examinations for Edexcel and OCR A level chemistry.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a patient tutor who wholeheartedly believes in a student-centred approach. During my 'lessons' (whether they be one to one or a whole class) students are encouraged to think for themselves and to produce their own explanations, under my guidance. The most effective way for a student to recall difficult concepts is if they are given the opportunity to discuss them, without fear of being 'wrong'. I also use my experience to guide students in ways they can remember large amounts of information and in preparation for examinations.
