Catherine - Bristol tutor
Information About Catherine:
Personal Description:
I graduated from the university of Bristol in 2003, with a degree in Philosophy and have been tutoring students of all ages and abilities since then. In addition to teaching, I enjoy writing poetry and plays and produce at least one original play every year for my students to perform. My philosophical background has proved particularly useful to students who wish to improve their essay writing and analytical skills. In 2011 I completed a Master's degree at the Institute of Education, London, with Distinction. My area of research was Aesthetic Education, with a particular focus on drama and literature.
Teaching Experience:
I teach Drama and English in two schools in Gloucestershire and have taught various classes and workshops across the county. I also teach English language and literature privately and have been a GCSE English examiner for the OCR examining board since 2004. In 2005 I worked in France for a year, teaching English as a Foreign Language. I have been able to keep up my EFL teaching on-line and regularly teach a small number of EFL students on a weekly basis.
Tutoring Approach:
I strive to create a relaxed and friendly atmosphere in my tuition sessions. I work closely with every student to come up with a personal learning plan to ensure they get the most out of each lesson. To that end, I travel to your home, as I have found that students work better in familiar surroundings with all necessary materials close at hand. I usually work on an hourly basis, for at least one hour a week, but I have conducted two hour sessions where necessary. Travel expenses are included within my hourly rate, so there will never be any additional costs to incur. I try, as far as possible, to accommodate busy schedules and appreciate that flexibility is important when organising sessions. I offer a free, no obligation, initial consultation to every student.
